Youth organizations in Great Britain
• Youth organizations are designed to direct the juvenility's energy and enthusiasm of. Many of them help to develop the abilities and skills of young people in various sectors (which are from sports to civic activity). • In the past, education was given only to the wealthy. Children have been beginning to work since their childhood: they were doing house works or helping in the field, and women gave birth to their first child when they were less than 16. Youthfulness - the period between childhood and adulthood - was very short and undistinguished in a human life.
• In the XIX century the situation started to change. More teenagers were finishing the schools and then the colleges, where they had received a good education. In many countries the statutes have been adopted, which said about the prohibition on employing the child labor, people began to enter into marriage later. Nowadays for millions of boys and girls youthfulness - is a fruitful time of preparation for an adult life.
• The youth and the youth movement have become the important factors in the life of a country. Numerous youth organizations have been formed after the Second World War, uniting young people from all classes and sections of the population. There about 60 youth organizations in Great Britain. Youth Council represents the youth of a country both national and international levels.

“Woodcraft Folk”(The Youth Organization of Great Britain) • This organization is one of the oldest in the UK. It was established in 1925 by an English writer Leslie Paul (1905 -1985). The name 'Woodcraft' in this context meant the skill of living in the open air, close to nature.
• Nowadays it is a charity organization which specializes on work with children and teen-agers. The main goal of which is to build a new society, based on the principles of co-operation, friendship, pacifism and social justice. The official slogans of The Woodcraft Folk are: «Span the world with friendship» and «Education for Social Change»
• Woodcraft Folk groups operate in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland Wales. Groups generally meet weekly, their activities include co-operative games, drama, camping trips, craftwork, singing and dancing.
• Group nights last between one and two hours, depending on the age of the children or young people. Groups are divided by age having kind of nicknames of the group. They are called: “Woodchips”, “Elfins”, “Pioneers”, “Venturers” and “District Fellows”. There is a special pedagogical programme, which explains to the youngest members of the organization the basic principles of cooperation and co-operative way of thinking. It is done with the help of games and special trainings. The programmes of lessons and trainings are prepared for each age group.
• They use special names, totems, symbols, tribal organization and even primitive tribal dances. All members in the camps receive tribal names often connected with flora and fauna. For example Leslie Paul called himself “Little Otter”. • They sing songs and tell jokes which represent the ideas of the organization.
• They draw simple posters sometimes even in the form of graffiti. They use taboo as a moral means against violating the rules. • The programme developed by Leslie Paul has proved its effectiveness to many generations of British children. In order to operate on the regular basis and to have a stuff of experienced full time tutors, teachers and headquarter’s council the organization needs money. So parents of the children pay for tickets and excursions. Adult members pay annual fees on regular annual basis. The organization is supported by the Cooperative Movement of the UK and different trade unions and business groups. About one third is financed by the Department for Education and so it is clear that the authorities of Great Britain understand the importance of young generation upbringing of this kind.
Global Village Festival • The “Woodcraft Folk” organizes festivals where members from different parts of Great Britain gather together. For example such a festival took place in Kent in August 2006. It was called “GLOBAL VILLAGE”.
• A great deal of the festival programme was devoted to the problem of “Conflict and Peace”. This programme was called “DO SOMETHING ABOUT”. Adults, together with the younger members of the Woodcraft Folk prepared different competitions and contests. The participants discussed the vital problems of today’s world: “Landmines”, “Arms Trade” and many others. Every age group had their own chance to participate.
• Definitely this youth organization is not a complete remedy for all problems of the modern youth, but this positive experience and methods of work which have been experienced by several generations of young people may and must be used in the activities of our Russian youth organizations and probably in our school too.
