Year 8 coasts investigation Where will you go on holiday? Battle of the holidays!
What are our learning objectives? • L. O. • To identify and describe the attractions of a coastal location – anywhere in the world – that you would like to visit. • To explain why you would like to visit it. • You will produce a document or Power. Point as your answer. • You also have computers booked p 3 of tomorrow’s lesson to work on this. • It must be finished by next Friday ready to present to the class if chosen.
How do I do this? • You have to research a coastal location to go on holiday. • What are the reasons why you would like to go there? • What is it like? • Does it have a great beach? Fantastic big waves? Does it have rock pools to look in? Does it have spectacular cliffs or arches & other scenery? Is it in an area with a fantastic climate? • How has the area been developed for tourists? • Are there great hotels/B & B/camp or caravan sites? Does it have cafes, ice cream places? Does it have good access & car parks? Is it very busy or very quiet? • Include a MAP & PHOTOGRAPHS. • It can be of an area you have visited before or just somewhere on your “wishlist”. • See my example following this slide.
My example • I would love to go to… • Barafundle Bay, Pembrokeshire.
Beautiful Barafundle Bay – what’s it like? Beautiful cliffs – contains an arch & some caves Very quiet – not crowded Clear aqua sea – great for swimming No cafes or bars, just take a picnic or BBQ You have to walk for a mile from the car park over the cliffs to get there
Why do I like it? • I first went there as a child in my uncle’s old boat – very exciting! There were only about 12 people on the entire beach in the middle of the summer holidays. I have good memories of it. • It’s a 25 minute walk form the nearest car park, toilets, café etc, owned by the National Trust, it means some people won’t go there – it’s very quiet! • If you are on a walk it is a great place for a lunch break - & a swim in the sea to cool off.
Now it’s your turn • • Choose your location Prepare the research Produce an illustrated document Have it ready for next Friday – you can save it, clearly identified, in my work postbox (easier than just on a memory stick). • Be ready to answer questions & justify your choice!
