The Test Format There are modules, to the IELTS test: 1. Reading, 2. Writing, 3. Listening 4. Speaking. There are 2 formats: 1. the Academic Module 2. the General Training Module. Total Time: 2 hours 45 minutes
Academic Writing Module Tips: üYou have only 1 hour for the writing test; üSpend 20 minutes completing Part 1 üSpend 40 minutes completing Part 2; üWrite minimum words required; üThe words counted do not include any words of the question title; üTask 1: 141 words ( to be safe at least 150); üTask 2: 241 ( to be safe at least 250)
Writing Task 1 is always a presentation of data on a specific topic. This is always presented in the form of a graph or a diagram.
Example The bar chart below shows the number of students in three different courses from 2001 -2004. Identify the main trends and summarize the data.
Band Score 8: • All the requirements of the task are achieved; • There are no spelling or grammatical errors; • The answer is over the minimum word count and the answer can be followed effortlessly; • A wide range of grammar and vocabulary is used.
Writing Task 2 You are presented with a discussion topic. You have to discus it and present your own opinion on it.
