Our team of students has been sent on a fact – finding trip to New York City by local Town Council to investigate the geography of this City, history, places of interest, culture, possibilities of accomodation, transport, recreation, eating in this City. Our purpose is offer others an excellent trip, holiday, tour to this fantastic City. What did we find out? ? ?

Basic information History: New York City was founded by Dutch in 1624 and called New Amsterdam. Forty years later it was captured by the British and renamed New York. The first Europeans were Vikings. The American Region was colonized by several European countries. They were Spain, France and England. New York City is exceptionally diverse. The term „melting pot” was first coined to describe densely populated immigrant neighborhoods. In 2000 36% of the City´s population was foreign born.

Basic Information Places of interest Classic image of New York: its famous skyline – Manhatten, the heart of New York. It is an island, cutt off from the mainland by the Hudson River. The skyscrapers of the business district are all in Manhatten. The first were built in 1903, 1913. Manhatten was built on a modern plan of streets and avenues. Most streets go from east to west and have numbers instead of names. Most avenues go from north to south. Brodway, the original Indian path, which is now a famous theater center. Fifth Avenue – New York´s most famous shopping street, divides the East Side from the West Side.

With the World Trade Center Destroyed in September 11. 2001 attacks, the tallest building in New York City. § Statue of Liberty Colossal statue, standing at Liberty Island, in the mouth of the Hudson River in New York Harbour. The sculptor: Frederick Auguste Bartholdi, represents liberty and escape from oppression.
Basic information Places of interest § Washinghton Square Park is a public park in New York City, one the most city´s well - known parks, popular meeting place and center for cultural activity, the park is home to the university´s graduation ceremony, to the children´s play. § Central Park is a large publik, urban park in the borough of Mannhattan with about 25 million visitors annually, the most visited city park in the USA, the most famous city parks in the world, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, popular oasis for migration birds.

The Big Apple is a city for every traveller, anytime!
