CROSS Reference NOTES: CROSS Reference NOTES Cross SBA valves have built-in load check & come with a conversion plug. 1. To convert the std. SBA 2 valve for power beyond order kit #1 V 0249 (#12 SAE) or #1 V 0208 (3/4" NPT) (see BA Parts list) 2. To convert to closed center function order kit #1 V 0206 + 1 R 0035 no relief plug (IV 2015 kit) or order the -CC model (already converted with tighter spool fit) (see BA Parts list) 3. CROSS SBA valve come standard with end inlet, and outlet ports (optional top ports may be ordered) Gresen SP valve have no option for a conversion plug. Anytime Gresen has a 'X' in the part number (ie. SPXTE-4 -HP) the valve comes with a conversion plug - like the Cross SBA series The 'TE' in the part number stands for 'optional top & end outlet' (the valve comes standard end outlet ports)
Selling Points: Selling points CROSS BA Series Differential Style Relief is quieter and more precise Gresen SP Series Serviceability - BA seals are at the end of the spools so easier to replace Seals set down inside spool so easier to nick Ball & Spring Type BA meters better - smoother operation Availability and pricing (Heavy duty steel handle assembly (#1 V 1626) is available if desired… actually problems with CROSS handle are very rare)

Single Selectors - Models VS 2 & VS 4 Single selector circuit Oil enters through Port C and exits through Port A or B depending on which direction the spool is shifted May be used to select between two circuits powered by a single pump so either cylinder can be operated independently B Port C A (For additional applications, see Sales Manual)
Double Selector (SD 4) Featured in Full Line Page 8 NPTF or SAE/ORB ports Standard Model sold with handle - other actuators and kits are field installable
SD 4 Double Selector Circuit This valve provides an economical method of diverting flow to two separate hydraulic circuits (cylinders or motors) using the same directional control valve. C, D ports - in and out connects to control valve A, E connects to one cylinder B, F connects to other cylinder (Select one function or other cannot run both simultaneously)

Valve questions MOST COMMONLY ASKED VALVE QUESTIONS:
HOW DO I HOOK UP THE VALVE? Hook up Inlet and outlet are marked on the valve as well as diagrammed on the box. A and B (C, D, E and F if applicable) ports go to the cylinder ports.
n g lifti WHAT VALVE SHOULD I USE FOR LIFTING? spring poppet For safety, a valve with a load check is necessary in order that the load does not drop before it begins to raise again when you are shifting out of the neutral position. CROSS BA, AD, SS and DV valves have load checks. (The load check is a spring loaded poppet which prevents the oil from backflowing until enough pressure is created to raise the load. )
Loa der WHAT VALVE DO I NEED FOR A LOADER? see Full Line catalog p. 6 The most popular valve is the SBAF 2 which has a float position on the first spool allowing the oil to circulate to permit the bucket to ride the contours of the ground. The second spool is for a two way cylinder and is spring centered to neutral. Another option is the SBA 22 which is spring centered to neutral on both spools but features no float. (The valves are also available in closed center models SBAF 2 -CC or SBA 22 -CC or with joystick SBAF 2 J. )
I HAVE A JOHN DEERE. (or any other closed center system) CAN I USE A STANDARD VALVE? All SBA valves are convertible to closed center by installing a closed center plug(#1 V 0206) and no relief plug (#1 R 0035) as shown in literature shipped with the valve. (also see Sales Manual for full explanation) Valves may also be ordered already converted to closed center - such as the SBA 2 -CC featuring a tighter spool fit. (AD/SA valves are also convertible) Clos ed cent er f a q Quick Refresher Open center Constant flow in neutral No pressure in neutral Closed center (no relief in valve) No flow in neutral Constant (Stand-by) pressure in neutral
HOW DO I HOOK UP SEVERAL VALVES IN SERIES? Replace the conversion plug on the outlet side of the SBA valve with a power beyond sleeve (#1 V 0208). Connect this line to the inlet of the second valve. Run a tank line from the outlet of the first valve (which has priority) back to the reservoir. e s Seri
e HOW DO I CHANGE THE RELIEF OR BYPASS SETTING l ON A VALVE? i Always use a pressure gauge in the inlet to assure precise results. An SBA valve e may be adjusted by turning the adjustment f screw under the acorn nut on the handle end of the valve. Clockwise will increase Noted on Valve Tech. Sheet in White s pressure. Master Catalog The Converta or CA relief is a ball and e spring type and is shim adjustable. Shims t in the relief cap may be added or removed to increase or decrease pressure. The t spring in the Converta is rated to 2250. Do not exceed the recommended psi for i the valve! n
0 WHAT DOES THE #1 V 0294 DETENT KIT DO? 2 9 This manual detent fits the SBA, SBC, C series or 4 Converta and is field installable. The valve handle (and spool) stays wherever it is placed until moved by the operator. Used frequently for motor applications. Never recommended for logsplitters.
CAN I PUT A FLOAT OPTION ON A STANDARD VALVE? (See P. 5 of BA parts list) Float Floa t No, the end of the spool as well as the lands are different so a standard valve will not accept a float detent. Float is a standard option on the SBAF 2 and SBAF 22. Float option should always be nearest the valve inlet. (Spools are matched to the individual valve bodies so changing a valve spool in the field is not feasible. )
CAN I PUT A PRESSURE KICKOUT ON A STANDARD VALVE? Pressure kickout or automatic return to neutral requires a special internal machining which must be done at the factory when the valve is manufactured. ( It is a standard feature on the SCD 2 E logsplitter valve. It may also be ordered on the B series. ) su re rel ea se
CAN I USE A STANDARD VALVE FOR A SINGLE ACTING CYLINDER? Not recommended. If you plug a port on a standard SBA valve, the pump oil has no place to go as you are exhausting or lowering the cylinder. Consequently, it goes over the relief and overheats the system. Valves with spools for single acting applications may be special ordered from the factory. (EXAMPLE: BA 13 AG 3 EA 0 #133259) (The Converta is convertible to single acting by replacing the long plug on the outlet side with the short SAE plug in the box. Directions and parts sheets are included with this valve. ) S i n g l e a c t i n g
identification HOW DO I IDENTIFY A VALVE? The CROSS computer stock number is stamped in BA, BC, CA, CD & SS the shaded area on the handle end of the valve body on recent valves. SD & VS 4 without solenoid Solenoid or Pilot end caps VS 2, AD, SQV, & DCV stamped With last 4 digits on machined Surfaces or plugs On older valves, the Z casting number is on the back which would tell you which series, but individual functions would have to be described. (ex. IZ 0046, 1 Z 0202 etc. )
Valve Advantages • Ground, plated and polished steel alloy spools are select fit to the individual valve body for minimum leakage and smooth operation • Rugged cast iron body construction • Built-in differential relief valves in AD, BA & DV series.
