WHY DO I WANT TO BE A BALLERINA v I want to be a ballerina because I like to dance to the music. Ballet is a beautiful art form. I go to the Academy of Russian Ballet named after Vaganova. My teacher's name is Natalia Apodiakos. She is very good and wants that our group were the best. She danced at the Mariinsky Theatre and I really want to be like her.

HISTORY v The history of ballet began in the Italian Renaissance courts of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. It quickly spread to the French court of Catherine de' Medici where it was further developed. The creation of classical ballet as it is known today occurred under Louis XIV, who in his youth was an avid dancer and performed in ballets. In 1661 Louis founded the (Royal Dance Academy) from which the first professional ballet company, the Paris Opera Ballet, arose. That’s why all balley vocabulary is french. In the twentieth century, ballet took a turn dividing it from classical ballet to the introduction of modern dance.

CLASSICAL BALLET v Classical ballet is based on traditional ballet technique and vocabulary. There are different styles of classical ballet that are related to their areas of origin, such as French ballet, Italian ballet and Russian ballet. Several of the classical ballet styles are associated with specific training methods, which are typically named after their creators. For example, the Cecchetti method is named after its creator, Italian dancer Enrico Cecchetti.
