WHERE WE ARE The NW Academy is located in Derry which is in the North West of Ireland. The city is the fourth largest city in Ireland has a population of 125, 000 people.
DERRY : 1 st UK CITY OF CULTURE 2013 Derry~Londonderry has made history after winning its bid to be the first ever UK City of Culture in 2013. Derry~Londonderry is the host to a year-long celebration of culture in the city, opening its doors to visitors from across the world. And the event and celebration have a legacy for the incoming years 2014 and 2015
PROFILE OF NW ACADEMY The ‘NW Academy of English’ is a British Council English accredited English language school and was established in 2003. The company is the largest hosting organisation for international mobility project and has hosted over 10. 000 overseas students from Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Estonia, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria , Sweden, Turkey, Germany, Finland, Slovenia, Poland, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia , Nicaragua and Mexico to name a few. We provide a ‘one-stop shop’ handling every component of a project. We look after the arrival, induction, language, accommodation, travel, social programme, food allowances, work placements and airport transfers. The NW Academy is today the single largest host for the ‘Leonardo Da Vinci’ project in Northern Ireland. Reception & Welcome NW Academy’s representative welcomes the group at the airport or at the bus station. The students get an information pack containing: - Maps and logistic information - Programme of the project - Telephone number for emergency contact 24 hours a day -Student hand book
Accommodation Full board in a Home Stay Self Catering accommodation. The students share a kitchen and bathrooms with other foreign students.
Induction and Orientation Students are inducted the first working day after their arrival: -Entry test for the English course -Presentation of student hand book, which provides the students with exhaustive information about their stay in Derry and the school. - Logistical information about the city and culture and information about the social events in the school and the city. - Location of useful services such as: supermarkets, banks, post offices, chemists, bus stops, libraries, shopping centres, etc… – Orientation tour: the studnets are taken for a walk and shown the city.
Language and Culture Preparation English courses range from 20 to 80 lesson per week depending on the programme We mix the students according to their level of English. Students with a lower level of English are encouraged to use Language Software and do extra home work. The North West Academy is accredited by: 1. - The British Council 2. - ISO 9000 -2001 We are also EXAM centre for TOEIC and TRINITY Our teachers are highly qualified with a MA in Teaching English to Foreign Students.
Work Placements depend completely on the trainee’s language skills and on their vocational training and experience. Students send their WP interview form to the WP officer before their arrival. Before organising the final interview the work placement officer will meet the students in order to understand expectations and possibility of work. Employers ultimately have the final say and may want to interview each trainee prior to offering employment.

WP Candidate Profile Minimum Intermediate level of English (if possible) Motivated and willing to learn Flexible and open to new cultures Relevant skills and knowledge of chosen area Willing and helpful with the hosting organisation in finding the workplacement according to competences and language skills.
Social activities The NW Academy organises a rich and diversified social programme throughout the year. The most famous trips are organised in the beautiful Giant’s Causeway and Glenveagh park and Castle
Monitoring and Assistance The students of the NW Academy will be assisted throughout the project. We monitor the progress of the experience of each students regularly: Quarterly progress meeting with their teachers Middle and final monitoring with the Work Placement officer. The WP officer also visits the students during their work placement in the different companies.
Certificates Certificate Issued by Leonardo project certificate attesting language course length and work placement undertaken or/and Language Certificate NW Academy of English Europass book NW Academy of English and Promoting Organisation Reference letter Company where the student was in placement
Premises The NW Academy is based in a beautiful Victorian house. FACILITIES: - 6 well equipped classrooms 1 Library with I. T. facilities 1 I. T. suite 1 welfare room for students to relax 1 kitchen
Classrooms
Library In the library there a variety of books, CDs, DVDs and CD-ROMS available for students. The students can use these to help them improve their English and to undertake some private study.
IT Suite The I. T. suite is based in the Social Room Students can use the computers to study and complete homework or to email home. There is also language learning software available to help students develop and improve their English through self-study. The all building has free WI-Fi access
Social Room and Kitchenette In the Social room students can relax and eat their lunch. There is also a kitchenette for students to use. In the Social room students can connect to the internet with their laptops using our wireless connection.
