Introduction to the Foundation • Established in 2005 as the charitable arm of Kin Canada • Public charitable foundation under Canada Revenue Agency regulations • Any Kinsmen, Kinette or Kin Club in good standing may access Foundation as a vehicle to operate projects
Introduction to the Foundation • Offers tax receipting and CRA reporting as part of wraparound service to clubs • Conducts a number of programs to facilitate fundraising and raise profile of Kin Canada (see later slides) • Provides a vehicle for those wishing to make a gift to Kin as part of annual charitable contributions
Vision, Mission & Values • Vision: Provide people and organizations with opportunities to build their communities to create a stronger, vibrant, compassionate Canada • Mission: Empowering Canadians to change lives by enhancing and building communities both in human experience and bricks and mortar • Values: Community; Compassion; Leadership; Accountability; Education
Board Governance • Operates independently from Kin Canada and has its own governing bylaw, however … • … Foundation Board of Directors includes up to two members appointed by Kin Canada National Board of Directors, and last year added the National Service Director • Most Foundation Board members individual members of Kin Canada Clubs, but not all members required to be Kin members • Foundation Board seeks members with particular skill sets, e. g. estate planning and project administration

Foundation Programs • Hal Rogers Fellow: • Highest award conferred by the Foundation • Recognizes club members, alumni and non-Kin who have made significant contribution to community or country • Proceeds from program will go to permanent endowment to support Kin Canada

Foundation Programs • 49 th Parallel North Fund: • Purpose: To honour and show respect to fallen Canadian first responders (military, police, firefighters, EMS, etc. ) • Raises necessary funds to provide support to families of fallen first responders • Provides funding assistance toward college/university or training expenses for family members • Awards follow same application guidelines as for HRF
Foundation Programs • 49 th Parallel North Fund (continued): 49 th Parallel North Fund HRF recipient: Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent Presentation took place Oct 18 th in St Hubert, QC Bursaries have been granted to his nephew and niece under 49 th PNF
Foundation Programs • Kin ASSIST: • Purpose: to provide support to individuals and families requiring assistance during or after devastating life events, e. g. : • Life-threatening or terminal illnesses • Hospital stays • Vehicle collisions or industrial accidents • House fires or other catastrophic events • Program still waiting opinion from CRA Charitable before disbursements can be done • Applications made through Clubs and funds on a provincial basis capped at lessor of $1, 500 or available funds • Available to Kin and non-Kin • Large scale disasters will not be eligible
Foundation Programs • Agency Agreements: • Are the vehicles by which Foundation forms a contract with clubs to support fundraising operations • Allow tax receipts to be issued • Foundation charges an administration fee of 3% to cover costs of receipt production and reporting to CRA • For projects with proceeds exceeding $250, 000, administration fee may be negotiated
Contributing to the Foundation • Gifts to the Foundation are welcome at any time and official tax receipts can be issued • Potential donors may consider starting charitable trusts or making a memorial or legacy gifts • Potential donors are encouraged to contact financial advisors or estate planners if contemplating a gift to the Foundation
