Welcome to Trinity
Greeting Opening Prayer
Calling on God Already overburdened with the demandsof work and leisure, family and friends, we come to this place in search of rest. May we find here the strength and hope to work for justice. Forgiveness is elusive and anger is justified, too often we settle for the sweet fleeting fruit of revenge. May we find here the patience to embody mercy.
Deluded by the world in which we live receiving power and prestige and money as just reward missing the Spirit's call to a life grounded in humble service. May we find here the wisdom to walk in the Spirit.
Prayer of Supplication Thou who art over us, Thou who art one of us, Thou who art: Give us a pure heart, that we may see thee; a humble heart, that we may hear thee; a heart of love, that we may serve thee; a heart of faith, that we may abide
we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Open My Eyes, That I May See WORDS: Clara H. Scott, 1895 1. Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth thou hast for me, 454
place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free.

2. Open my ears, that I may hear voices of truth thou sendest clear;
and while the wave-notes fall on my ear, everything false will disappear.
Refrain Silently now I wait for thee, ready, my God, thy will to see. Open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!
3. Open my mouth and let me bear gladly the warm truth everywhere;
open my heart and let me prepare love with thy children thus to share.
Refrain Silently now I wait for thee, ready, my God, thy will to see. Open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Passing of the Peace “The Word of the Lord be with You”
New Testament Reading 1 Timothy 4: 6 -10
If you put these instructions before the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching that you have followed. Train yourself in godliness, for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance. For to this end we toil and struggle, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. The words of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

4. Holy Spirit, Right divine, King within my conscience reign; be my Lord, and I shall be firmly bound, forever free.
Gospel Reading Luke 16: 19 -31
“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man’s table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores. The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was being tormented, the rich man looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side. The rich man called out,
‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames. ’ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony. Besides all this, between you and us a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who might want to pass from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us. ’ The rich man said,
‘Then, father, I beg you to send him to my father’s house—for I have five brothers—that he may warn them, so that they will not also come into this place of torment. ’ Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them. ’ The rich man said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent. ’
Abraham said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead. ’” The words of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

Dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before throne!
