Maximize Your Academic Session • Come prepared with questions • Have submitted HS or college transcripts, AP/IB scores • Understand the IGETC • Understand the GE pattern for an AA Degree • Know your major (go the Career Center first) • Familiarize yourself with www. assist. org • Know the colleges you are interested in. Visit the Transfer Center, review school websites. • Review videos on our website that explain all above.
Strategies for Success • Clear any prereqs right away (with outside transcripts, AP, IB • • • scores, or high school transcripts for science and language) Prioritize taking English and/or math your first semester Limit your units to 12 -15 (12 if you’ll be working) to maintain a strong GPA Seek help early, rather than later – Instructor office hours, tutoring, Writing Center, LRC, personal counseling, math tutoring lab, etc. Make progress in identifying your major and/or career goals (go to the Career Center!) sbcc. edu/careercenter Prioritizing your transfer options Get involved
TIME MANAGEMENT Expect 2 hours of homework for each hour in class. (If you enroll in 15 units you should plan for 30 hours of study time outside of class- reading, homework, research). If working 40 hours a week 30 hours a week 20 hours a week no more than 6 units 9 units 12 units

SBCC What are the steps 4 - YEAR to follow? Which General Education courses should be taken for transfer to a 4 year school? However, some also accept IGETC.
The Importance of Major Preparation Ø Prepares students for upper-division work Ø Highly selective majors (e. g. sciences, engineering) evaluate students based on major preparation completed prior to transfer Ø Prerequisite coursework is often a higher priority than GE or IGETC. (Some courses may count as both Preparation and General Education). Ø Major preparation and GE/IGETC requirements for each UC campus can be found on ASSIST - http: //www. assist. org/
What is a TAG? * Ø A TAG is a formal, written agreement that outlines the courses that must be completed before transferring** Ø It also states the grade point average that needs to be earned, and lists specific requirements for selective majors TAG information is available at www. sbcc. edu/transfercenter *Conditions may change at anytime. Please visit the University’s website for up to date information. Students must apply for a UC TAG by Sept 30 one year in advance. UC Los Angeles Transfer Alliance Program – Fall 2015 College of Letters & Science The Purpose of TAP is to provide priority admissions consideration for the College of Letters and Science to students who complete the TAP and satisfy transfer admission AND major requirements EXCEPT Communication Studies, School of Art and Architecture, Television, Film, Television and Engineering. The certified student is eligible for the TAP (Transfer Alliance Program) Priority Consideration for admission to UCLA College of Letters & Science. The student is not guaranteed admission to UCLA Certification Process is: ØStudents must earn the SBCC Certificate of Achievement in Honors by successfully completing six (6) honors courses for Humanities/Social Sciences or four (4) honors courses and (4) specified science/math courses for Mathematics/Sciences by Spring 2015 ØCompletion of major preparation courses by spring 2014.
