Why PCIA? ØAlmost 3 billion people burn solid fuels indoors for home cooking and heating. ØSmoke kills: Worldwide more than 1. 5 million people, mainly women and children, die prematurely each year from breathing elevated levels of indoor smoke. Smoke kills more people than Malaria! Yet, no woman should die because of daily cooking for her family. Partnership for Clean Indoor Air

PCIA Mission and Goal ØMission: Improve health, livelihood, and quality of life through reduced exposure to indoor air pollution, primarily among women and children, from household energy use in developing countries. ØGoal: Increase the use of clean, reliable, affordable, efficient, and safe home cooking and heating practices that reduce IAP exposure Partnership for Clean Indoor Air

The PCIA-Global Alliance Integration Ø Limitations to EPA-housed Partnership § Fundraising, SCALE! § Advocacy Ø After several years of looking for a new home, UNF stepped forward to launch the Alliance Ø PCIA has continued in parallel to give the Alliance time to grow and strengthen; the Alliance will be the coordinating entity going forward.
