The Many Baptisms In the New Testament In the religious world 1) Baptism of John (Mark 1: 4 -5) 2) Baptism of Holy Spirit (Mat. 3: 11; Acts 1: 5) 3) Baptism of fire (Matthew 3: 11 -12) 4) Baptism of Israel (I Cor. 10: 2) 5) Baptism of suffering (Matt. 20: 22) 6) Baptism for remission of sins (Acts 2: 38; etc…) 1) Baptism as an outward show of previous salvation 2) Baptism as sprinkling or pouring 3) Baptism into a manmade group 4) Baptism accompanied by supernatural ability 5) Baptism of infants or children 6) Baptism as the only requirement

The One Baptism In the religious world • Baptism precedes salvation (Mk. 16: 16; Acts 22: 16, etc. ) • Baptism is immersion (Acts 8: 38; Rom. 6: 3 -4; Col. 2: 12) • Baptism places us in Christ (Gal. 3: 27; Acts 2: 47) • Baptism did not always include such (Acts 8: 14 -17) • Baptism is only for sinners who believe (Mk. 16: 16; Acts 2: 38) • Baptism accompanies all other acts of obedience 1) Baptism as an outward show of previous salvation 2) Baptism as sprinkling or pouring 3) Baptism into a manmade group 4) Baptism accompanied by supernatural ability 5) Baptism of infants or children 6) Baptism as the only requirement
The One Baptism • The one baptism promotes unity: – Because all must be baptized to become a Christian – Because all who are baptized are placed in the one body – Because all who are baptized undergo the same transformation (II Corinthians 5: 17) Are you a part of the body of Christ?
Consider During the Lord’s Supper: Romans 5: 6 -9 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
