The College Going Culture • TUSD Comprehensive Educational Action Plan Overarching goal: To ensure that students are fully prepared for any post-secondary options they wish to pursue College Going Culture Committee was formed in 2011

The College Going Culture • A quality college preparatory program is multi-faceted and takes place in classrooms, counseling offices, and at home. Important factors of college readiness include: - Rigorous high school courses -High teacher expectations -Consistent, high quality college counseling -The timely provision of admissions and financial aid information -Parental involvement in the college process -Mc. The College Going Culture • Faculty Involvement: – Presenting data on college admission requirements to give faculty and understanding of college counseling as a whole • Information and Resources: – Counselors will provide “targeted interventions” for students who are underrepresented in the college-eligible population with events such as subject-centered meetings • Family Involvement: – Schools will organize topic-specific “Family Nights” • PSAT and College Planning Night • Building Academic Success Night • Four Year Plans: – Students will develop 4 -year plans that will be reviewed annually with parent, student and counselor input

Meeting high school grad requirements: – Take summer school to make up classes – – – * Take “Adult” School Classes for make-up in the fall TEF hosts summer school at South & North for $$ Talk to your student’s counselor Be careful taking online classes!!

Schedule for Scheduling Counselors will see all students two times • First meeting • Students will receive an evaluated transcript with review • Discuss curricular paths and explain choices • Receive the Honors/AP Commitment Form • Review the “Four Year Plan” with counselor • Between meetings • Students should discuss course options w/parent/teachers • Get signatures from teacher(s) as needed • Clarify questions and concerns • Attend Honors/AP lunch meetings • Get parent signature on selection sheet • Second meeting • Students will return their completed and signed Course Selection Sheet • Students will return their signed Honors/AP form
