Director, Inter-University Accelerator Centre & The Organizing Committee of TESLA TECHNOLOGY COLLABORATION MEETING Cordially invite you to The Reception Dinner on 20 th October 2008 Venue: IUAC Time: 7: 00 PM onwards
INTER UNIVERSITY ACCELERATOR CENTRE (IUAC) Established in 1984 as the first Inter University Centre, Mission: "To provide within the university system world class facilities for accelerator based internationally competitive research in focussed areas of several disciplines, e. g. , Nuclear Physics, Materials Science, Atomic Physics and Radiation Biology. ” Present User community: 79 Universities, 50 Colleges and 56 National and International Laboratories. About 160 students have obtained their Ph. Ds. Currently about 100 students are utilising the IUAC facilities.
Activities: * Research and Development * Accelerator augmentation * Facilities & Infrastructure development * Training programmes at Ph. D level * Seminar, Conferences and Workshops * Acquaintance programmes for new Users * Visitors Programme Goals: Increase the interaction with and among universities. Improve the impact of the research done at IUAC. Train fresh manpower in accelerator based research and technologies.
Established a world class medium energy heavy ion accelerator facility with an uptime of better than 95%. Completion of the first linac module and indigenous fabrication of the superconducting cavity resonators Developing the first Radioactive Ion Beam facility of the country. Designing and establishing sophisticated experimental facilities in project mode involving several universities. Empowerment of the University community and enabled the use of front ranking world class research facilities which were hitherto unavailable. A laboratory for design of innovative experiments for teaching laboratories have been set up and low- cost equipment for post graduate and under graduate levels.
Experimental Programme Nuclear Physics: Spectroscopy of very heavy and light nuclei. Formation dynamics of very heavy nuclei. Materials Science: Nano materials, Oxide materials, magnetic materials & metals with ion beams. Phase transformations with SHI. Simulation of ion-material interaction processes. Radiation Biology: Bystander effect in high LET radiation. Single hit events. Role of radioprotectors. Atomic Physics: High resolution beam-foil spectroscopy. Very slow HCI interactions with atoms & Molecules.
