DIFFERENCES BETWEEN K-12 SYSTEM & COLLEGE SYSTEM K-12 COLLEGE • l IDEA, Section 504 l “Search & Serve” l District identifies student(s) Makes assessment l • • Establishes eligibility Develop I. E. P. /I. T. P l Provides support and/or special classes • Section 504, ADA “Request & Self Disclosure” Student provides documentation Identify educational limitations Develop S. E. P. Provide support services and/or special classes
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN K-12 SYSTEM & COLLEGE SYSTEM K-12 l Districts ensures that the I. E. P. is implemented and goals are met l Parents & Special Ed. professionals may advocate for student Fundamental alternation is allowed to the: 1. program of study l 2. Student may receive certificate of completion instead of diploma l Student is responsible for own goals and progress l Student advocates for self; uses D. S. P. S. staff l Accommodations may NOT alter fundamental nature of credit courses, degree requirements or certificate programs l Student may receive approved vocational certificate of AA/AS Degree instructional methods l COLLEGE
