CHECHNYA AND ITS GEOGRAPHICAL PARTICULARITIES: The Chechen Republic, commonly referred to as Chechnya and sometimes referred to as Ichkeria (lit. land of minerals), is a federal subject (a republic) of Russia. It is located in the North Caucasus , situated in the southernmost part of Eastern Europe , and within 100 kilometers of the Caspian Sea. The capital of the republic is the city of Grozny. Chechnya is surrounded on nearly all sides by Russian Federal territory. In the west, it borders North Ossetia and Ingushetia, in the north, Stavropol Krai, in the east, Dagestan, and to the south, Georgia. The nature of Chechnya is picturesque. There are beautiful rivers, tremendous mountains and heaven-blue lake.

Tips foreigners how to cope with the weather conditions on Chechnya Despite a relatively small territory, Chechnya is characterized by a significant variety of climate conditions. All transitional types of climates are found here, starting from arid climate of the Terek-Kuma semi-desert and ending with cold humid climate of the snowy peaks of the Lateral ridge. The climate of the republic is a result of complex interactions of local climatic factors and general climatic processes that pass far beyond its borders, in the vast spaces of Eurasia.

People and their customs Religion. True Chechen form of Islam lives on. Chechen people pray by singing. It was intense, emotional, personal, and warm.
Dances. Their folk dance is a complete, complex gender drama. The man stamps and struts, while the woman glides. The woman, by ignoring the man completely and dancing to herself while he flashes with all his macho art, can make him look ridiculous. By acknowledging a dancer who is enthusiastic but not skillful, she can make him glow with pride. It is a subtle and impressive interplay between the sexes, enjoyed by both men, women and even this spectator who has never been brave enough to join in.
