Welcome to Medvedkovo ! What sights can I see?

MEDVEDKOVO Medvedkovo is the north-west region of Moscow. Its area historically borders with Otradnoe and Babushkinskaya.

MEDVEDKOVO From the east and south it is limitedby the river. Jauza, from the West by the river Chermjanka, from north by MKAD.

It is divided into two parts: «Northern Medvedkovo» and «Southern Medvedkovo» . Its area is about six square kilometers. The population is about 190 thousand persons.

HISTORY Medvedkovo is the name of the former village. In XVII century, as the legend says, it was surrounded by the deep woods, where the number of bears was numerous.

HISTORY Actually, the name Medvedkovo occurred from the name of the first owner of this place. The village was an entail property of prince Vasiliy Fedorovicha. Pozharskogo, by a nickname “Bear”, who lived in the sixteenth century.

After Pozharsky there were different owners in the history of Medvedkovo. But Medvedkovo was always a favorite place of hunting. Dense wood, deep waters of the rivers Jauza and Chermjanka were really very picturesque.

Former summer resort In 1862 after construction of the Yaroslavl railway it became a popular summer resort. In nineteenth century a lot of famous artists, writers (such as Mikhail Vrubel, V. Bruce J. , and others) stayed here to create their works. It has become a part of Moscow since 1960.

HISTORY Medvedkovo was rebuilt in 60 - 80 th years. Typical houses appeared in industrial and inhabited areas. The highest 25 floors buildings were built in Polyarnaya street. The typical low apartment houses appeared on Wide street.

Pokrova Presvjatoj Bogoroditsy's temple The church was constructed by prince Dmitry Pozharsky in 1635. As the legend says, it was made in honor of clearing Russia from the Polish intervention and to the memory of the latest son from first marriage Feodor.

CHURCH Great historical value, according to art critics, represented the miniatures. They were made by tsarevna Sofia. The iconostasis was made in 80 th years of a XVIII century by request of V. V. Golitsyn.

CHURCH The church is surrounded by the rests of the old park, which is going down to the river Jauza. D. F. Motorin in 1682— 96 worked on an unusual bell (64 kg), by request of boyar V. V. Golitsyn.

CINEMA v. There is a cinema Ladoga in Medvedkovo. v. You can relax here and enjoy waching a good film. v. There is a zone of entertainment and facilities for movies in the cinema.

MEDVEDKOVO PARC There is also a park where you can relax, have fun in the winter and summer. The park is picturesque.

JAUZA RIVER Jauza is one of the largest inflows of the Moskva River. It is the second longest river in Moscow. It is located in the north-east and central part of the city. The length is about 48 km. The name of the river is also known as Auza (1156). In Latvian it means «oats stalk, an awn, straw» .

JAYZA RIVER Till XVIII century it was a trading way from the pool of Moscow river to the pool of Klyazma. In XIX century Jauza became a basis of the first Mytishchinsky water pipe. From the beginning of XVIII century the coasts of Jauzy were built up, numerous dams were made on it. Nowadays it is the popular vocation place. You can relax, enjoy the beauty of nature and make barbecue.

UNDERGROUND STATION It is located on crossing of Shirokaya street and Grekova street. It was opened on 29 th of Septermber in 1978. The station was typical designed by N. A. Alyoshin. N. K. Samoilov, co-author V. S. Volovich were the authors of the station project.

UNDERGRROUND STATION Pink marble is used in decorating of the main hall of the station. The columns are finished by vertical inserts from stainless steel. The walls are made from a dark granite and decorated by stamped aluminum elements (artist M. N. Alekseev).

MAIN STREETS • Polyarnaya street, Ostashkovskaya street, proezd Shokalskoko, Dezhnev, Chermyans kiy street are the main streets in Medvedkovo. • The streets are wide and driveways are clear.

MAIN STREETS As established in Moscow, most of the streets in Medvedcovo were named according to there geographical position (the cold glow of driveways). They were named to the northern theme : Severodvinskaya, Vilyuiskaya, Sukhonsky Street and others.

MAIN STREETS Dezhnev proezd is named after Russian explorer S. I. Dezhnev. Proezd Shokalskogo got its name in memory of the academician, researcher and Arctic oceanographer M. Shokalski. Molodtsova Street is named in honor of Hero of the Soviet Union spy, VA Molodtsova, who died in the Great Patriotic War. Tikhomirov Street - in honor of the historian, Academician MN Tikhomirov, who died in 1965.

INDUSTRY 120 enterprises and establishments are located in Medvedkovo. The largest are: q 21 st ball-bearing factory, q. Leather factory "Medvedkovo" — street Polar the house 33 q. Bread-baking complex "Peko", q. Joint-Stock Company « 20 th taxi park» q. Factory “Voenohot"

MEDVEDKOVO IS THE PLACE OF INTEREST Last year The Ecology City Institute decided to build a tourist zone in the north-east of Moscow. Historical hotels will be build in former farmstead complexes "Medvedkovo" and "Vinogradovo". The hotels at level of 4 European stars will make its accessible, as Russian, and to the foreign visitor.
