§ To many people in our century his name means the world of cartoons.

Disney has created a lot of short cartoons and many, many longer films.

The statue of Walt Disney on Main Street, USA, in Magic Kingdom, Disney World, Florida. § His name is very famous, and not only in America.

Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, California Then his family left that city in the North of America for a place in the South, in California.

The earliest known drawings of Mickey Mouse by Walt Disney. When Walt Disney grew up, he began to draw pictures and to create cartoons, and one day he had an idea.

He told his wife Lilian about this.

Then came other characters:

Snow White

and the seven dwarfs,

Donald Duck

Winnie-The-Pooh

Pluto,

Peter Pan,

Cruella,

and many, many others.

One day an idea came to Disney. He wanted to create a special place, a special land for children and parents to have fun together.

It is a place for children of all ages. It is also a place for their parents to return to the world of childhood because that is what happens when they spend a day at Disneyland!

Walt Disney died in December, 1966, when he was 66.

But he is not forgotten.
