Sightseeing ¥ Museum-monument "Our Savior On The Blood “ The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood was complete in 1907 as a memorial church to the Russian emperor Alexander II, on the very spot of crucial terroristic attempt upon him. Marsovo Polye The Field of Mars or Marsovo Polye (Russian: Ма рсово по ле) is a large park named after the Mars - Roman god of war situated in the center of Saint-Petersburg, with an area of about 9 hectares. The Moyka river forms the boundary to the south. ¥ The Peter and Paul Fortress (Russian: Petropavlovskaya Krepost) is the original citadel of St. Petersburg, Russia, founded by Peter the Great in 1703 and built to Domenico Trezzini's designs from 1706 -1740. he decided to build a fort to protect the area from possible attack by the Swedish army and navy. The Cathedral was the first church in the city to be built of stone. On top of the cathedrals’ gilded spire stands a magnificent golden angel holding a cross. Kazan cathedral Whilst taking a stroll along Nevsky Prospekt you cannot fail to notice the impressive Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan Cathedral, constructed between 1801 and 1811 by the architect Andrei Voronikhin. The cathedral was inspired by the Basilica of St. Peter’s in Rome and was intended to be the country’s main Orthodox Church. After the war of 1812 (during which Napoleon was defeated) the church became a monument to Russian victory.
