Behavior • Green is for Happy! • Orange is for Warning (1 st problem) • Yellow is for Uh-oh (2 nd problem- time out, 2 (no problems) minutes of recess) • Red is for Sad! (3 rd problem/serious issue – 2 time outs and 5 minutes of recess)
Homework • Will start next week • 10 -20 minutes • Read a book each day, color face • Weekly worksheets • Practice letters, sounds, numbers, words • Lots of PLAY
The best part of every night! • • Read to your child a lot Read in any language Read anything/everything Children who hear more stories read more • The more a child reads, the better their test scores in later grades!

What reading looks like in K. • 40 -100 sight words • 25 concrete words • Discuss texts using literary words (character, setting…) • Read a DRA 4 level book • Make predictions • Make inferences • Ask and answer questions about books

What are we learning in Math? • Counting (orally to 100, sets of 15) • Recognizing and writing numbers to 15 • Measuring and comparing objects • Shapes • Collecting data and graphing • Patterns • Sorting by multiple attributes
By the end of October your child should know how to… 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Follow a direction the first time Button and zip clothing (especially jackets!) Count to 20 in English Write their name on their own Name all lower and upper case letters and their sounds 6. Name all of the colors in English 7. Name a triangle, square, rectangle and circle. 8. Recognize the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
How to help your child at home • Buy books (thrift store) or use the library More books = better readers!!!!! • Check their folder EVERY night! • Count everything • Praise good behavior, discuss poor behavior at school • Find letters, numbers, colors, and shapes everywhere • Practice writing letters and numbers • Talk to them about their work each day • Show them what you write and read and how you do it
Pumpkin Patch Field Trip • • October 28, 2016 Learning about the pumpkin life cycle Seeing “farmers” at work All students will go home with a pumpkin Cost $9. 25 for children 2 Chaperones - $6. 75 (includes pumpkin) Money due by 10/14/16 NOT Halloween related!!!!
