What is an Early College H. S. ? § The W. W. Samuell Early What is an Early College H. S. ? § The W. W. Samuell Early College High School seeks provide a seamless transition between high school and college. The Samuell ECHS will provide more opportunity for the Southeast Dallas, Pleasant Grove, and East Dallas communities. What is an Early College High School? § Up to 60 hours of college credit or an Associate’s Degree while earning a high school diploma for FREE § Up to 50% of the slots will be open to the Samuell H. S. feeder pattern and the remaining slots will be designated for Southeast Dallas. The remaining slots will be open to all Dallas ISD students and non Dallas ISD students

S. § 100 Openings for incoming 9 th grade students § Fall 2014 – 11 th grade students will transition to the Eastfield College campus with Dallas ISD staff

Eligibility § Eligibility is based on these criteria: § § § § (a) the Eligibility § Eligibility is based on these criteria: § § § § (a) the desire and determination to attend college (b) academic performance (c) first-generation college attendee (d) parental support (e) recommendations from previous teacher (f) student and parent interview (g) signed parent/student/ECHS team contract

Completed essay question 3. 2 Teacher Recommendation Forms Recommendations MUST be in a sealed envelope! 4. Students who do not currently attend Dallas ISD: 8 th Grade Report Card Student Transcript STAAR/EOC Scores COMPLETED applications must be delivered to Samuell Early College H. S. by: Friday, February 28 th by 4: 00 p. m.

Dual Credit § What is Dual Credit? § Courses offered for dual credit stem Dual Credit § What is Dual Credit? § Courses offered for dual credit stem from agreements between high schools, universities and community colleges whereby a high school student enrolls in a college course and simultaneously earns college credit and high school credit for the course § Do all ECHS students enroll in dual credit courses? § Students must first pass the college placement exam prior to enrolling in dual credit courses. § The TSI exam will be administered their freshman year.

Summer Activities § Are there required summer activities? § Once accepted into the Early Summer Activities § Are there required summer activities? § Once accepted into the Early College H. S. you will be required to attend summer activities. § TBD – Dates will be determined once you received your letter of acceptance.

Uniforms § Will I be required to wear a uniform? § Yes, all Early Uniforms § Will I be required to wear a uniform? § Yes, all Early College H. S. students will be required to abide by the district and campus dress code. § Early College H. S. students will wear the following: § Black Polo – ECHS Logo § Khaki or Black pants, shorts or skirts

S. athletics § Cheerleading, Drill Team, Band, ROTC, Choir, Theater Arts § Before/After School Clubs
