RGS – High Wycombe • Language College since 1997 • Purpose built language centre (1998) with 9 classrooms, 3 seminar rooms one with video conferencing and a 33 -seater ICT centre with broad-band. • Satellite television and overhead projectors in all teaching rooms. • 3 Smart interactive whiteboards. • 4 Foreign Language Assistants. • Language provision includes at Sixth level Japanese, Mandarin, Italian, Swedish, Russian. • GCSE (2005) French 82%, German 98%, Spanish 98% A* / A grades. • A 2 (2005) French 85%, German 83%, Spanish 80% A / B grades.

Advantages p p p p Improves the speed and quality of presentation of MFL. Improves motivation amongst pupils. Shared resource. Pupil participation increases. Provides authentic contexts for pupils’ work (eg Presentations) Leads to more spontaneous and extended use of MFL. Provides authentic contexts for pupils’ work. Improves knowledge and understanding of foreign cultures. Focus on teaching pupils how language operates.

Disadvantages p p p p Its use needs to be planned and explained carefully. Time-consuming to prepare. Need to involve all pupils. Other staff’s reactions – a two-tier department? How confident does the teacher feel with IT? Is there sufficient technical back-up? Expense – will it be a worthwhile investment?

Instructions • Go to: - insert, picture, clip art & select a picture of your choice using the search text on the right of the screen. • Click on it once & stretch it to fit the size of the wall. • Right click & copy it. • Right click again & select order, send backward. The picture is now hidden. • Go to the next slide, right click & paste. Reposition the picture if necessary. Right click & select order, send backward. • Repeat the procedure on all slides. You don‘t need to send backward on the blank slide. • Run the slide show. Clicking the blue button on any slide will take you to the last slide with the completely revealed picture & give you a round of applause.

Instructions • Insert clip art & set them to flash once automatically – (slide show / custom animation / add effect / entrance / more effects / basic / flash once). • Set the speed that you want them to flash & the timing delay between the pictures (click on the drop down menu in the box on the right hand side where the picture has been animated & select timing). • Timing can be used to differentiate between ability levels or year groups. • Copy or edit these slides but take note of animation effects to get a similar end product.
