STARFISH STORY “It made a difference for that one. . . ” There was a young man walking down a deserted beach just before dawn. In the distance he saw a frail old man. As he approached the old man, he saw him picking up stranded starfish and throwing them back into the sea. The young man gazed in wonder as the old man again and again threw the small starfish from the sand to the water. He asked, “Old man, why do you spend so much energy doing what seems to be a waste of time. ” The old man explained that the stranded starfish would die if left in the morning sun. “But there must be thousands of beaches and millions of starfish!” exclaimed the young man. “How can you make a difference? ” The old man looked at the small starfish in his hand, and as he threw it to the safety of the sea, he said, “It made a difference for that one!”

Quick Statement OCO is a non-profit, private human service agency that provides services to people in need. They touch the lives of over 30, 000 individuals annually and are focused on developing strengths of participants. As a result of what OCO does, the homeless are housed, children are fed, clothed and provided for, abused women have a safe place to turn to, individuals have access to healthcare and families become selfsufficient and less dependent on welfare programs.
By Being A Promoter of OCO… You are promoting the vision to make Oswego County a successful place to live, work and grow for families.

Who Has Vision? Brick Masons’ Story Once there were three brick masons working on a building. When the first was asked what he was working on, he answered gruffly without even raising his head, "Can't you see, I'm laying bricks!" When the second one was asked, he replied, "Well, obviously, I'm building a wall. " But when the third mason was asked, he looked up from his work with afar vision in his eye and said, "I'm building a cathedral so that all the people in the town may come and worship together. "

Preferred Future: l l l Oswego County is in top five counties having the highest employment rate Booming industry base Enough well-paying jobs for everyone Children leave for school well-fed Families have a sense of belonging, positive future and are contributing members of their community
