WRITING Task II Research an invention on the Internet and write a paragraph about it (80 -120 words). Include some of the vocabulary and phrases from below. handy / people say / cost an arm and a leg / high-tech / practical / high-quality / worth it / development / quality / convenience / state-of-the-art / technology / ahead of the times My favorite invention is the air conditioner, or AC. If we didn’t have it, I would melt like ice cream. It’s just so handy. If the day is too hot, like most days in the summer, then you can just turn it on and get cool again. People say the first one was put in the Rivoli Theater in Broadway, New York in 1925. It must have cost an arm and a leg at the time because it was so high-tech. It’s practical because people can now live more comfortably in hot places. People can work during the day even when it’s really warm outside. For me, buying a highquality AC is worth it for the cool summers. 42
