Valery Rezantsev wrestled exclusively as a light-heavyweight in the Greco-roman class. He is the only man to win seven consecutive championships at the Olympics and World Championships. He did this in 1970 -76, winning Olympic gold in 1972 and 1976, and World gold in 1970 -71, and 1973 -75. Rezantsev also won European championships in 1970, 1973, and 1974. He was Soviet champion from 1970 -75.

A good beginning makes a good ending Valery Grigoryevich Rezantsev was born in 1946 in Uzlovaya station. The official place of birth was registered as Stalinogorsk (today it is Novomoskovsk, Tula region). In the 8 -th form he was fond of bike sport. He got the Master of Sport. .
V. G. Rezantsev about his school teachers: ““ I was lucky we had the best P. E. teachers at school. In summer we ran, played football, volleyball. We had different competitions every weekend. In winter we skied and skated. I was physically ready for wrestling. ”
Greco-roman period In 1963 V. G. Rezantsev started wrestling. In 1965 he took the fifth place in the Spartakiada In 1967 he won the Tournament of the USSR. In 1968 he took the second place in the Tournament named Poddubny. 1969 V. G. Rezantsev won this Tournament. In 1970 he won USSR Championship, World Championship and Europe Championship.
At the Summer Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 V. G. Rezantsev wrestled in the weight category of 90 kg. He became the Olympic Champion.
During 20 years the name «Valery Rezantsev» was in Guinness Book of Records № 238 as a wrestler with the greatest number of winning bouts. Guinness Book of Records. №
V. G. Rezantsev ‘s method of wrestling: V. Rezantsev won all his competitions owing to one method which was called «bychok» . The sportsman pushed his opponent with his head, his neck, his shoulder or his chest into the « « parter » » . . He had been wrestling for 7 years without defeating. .
The trainer and the referee You can’t be a trainer or a sportsman being a characterless person. Wrestling is a very difficult and complicated kind of sport.
After his sport career in 1976 he began to train. From 1981 he is the referee in the international competitions. From 1982 he became the extra-class referee of international category.
V. G. Rezantsev about his mother and father: ““ My best trainer and fan at the beginning of my sport way was my mother. She was very movable. I even wrestled with her! My height was 165 sm when I began to wrestle. Then I became taller. My mother liked my sport. She knew all my opponents. My father was a real man! He was very serious and strict. He could keep in check his emotions. He really liked my hobby-wrestling, but he never showed that and spoke it about. “
V. G. Rezantsev about his trainer: ““ Sometimes I wanted to leave off wrestling. It was so difficult to train and to wrestle. But my first and last trainer Vadim Aleksandrovich Psaryev always helped me. He was like my second father. We wrote the characteristics of all our opponents. We knew all our opponents very well. It had played a big role, I could win my opponents easier. «
The competitions in Taganrog Since 2009 in Taganrog the children’s Greco-roman Tournament Honored V. G. Rezantsev is held.
The competitions in Novomoskovsk In Novomoskovsk the Tournament in Honor V. G. Rezantsev is held every year. Last Tournament was held on the 28 thth of October 2011. The sportsmen from Oryol, Kaluga, Tula, Mikhailov and Donskoy took part there.
