The Llangollen International Eisteddfod Wales is often referred to as "the land of song", and is notable for its harpists (арфисты) , male choirs, and solo artists. If you happen to visit Wales on summer, especially in July, you’ll have a great chance to visit an Eisteddfod (Great bard meet) in town Llangollen. As every British knows, Wales is a country of music and Welsh people like music very much. Traditional music and dance in Wales is supported by a myriad (большое количество) of societies. The Welsh Folk Song Society has published a number of collections of songs and tunes.
• The patron saint of Wales is Saint David, Dewi Sant in Welsh. St. David's Day is celebrated on 1 March, which some people argue should be a public holiday in Wales. The traditional seasonal festivals in Wales are: • 1) Calan Gaeaf (a Hallowe'en or Samhain-type holiday on the first day of winter) • 2) Gwyl Fair y Canhwyllau (literally Mary’s Festival of the Candles, but equivalent to Candlemas and Imbolc) • 3) Calan Mai (May Day, and similar to Beltane) • 4) Calan Awst (or Midsummer). • 5)Dydd Santes Dwynwen, a Welsh equivalent to Valentine's Day.
St. David’s day • Saint David's Day is the feast (банкет) day of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, and falls on 1 March each year. The date of 1 March was chosen in remembrance of the death of Saint David. Tradition holds that he died on that day in 589.
• Every year parades are held in Wales to commemorate St. David. The largest of these is held in Cardiff. • Public celebrations of St. David's Day are becoming more commonplace (бональными). In many towns an annual parade through the centre of town is now held. Concerts are held in pubs, clubs, and other venues (место встречи).
Calan Gaeaf • Calan Gaeaf is the name of the first day of winter in Wales, observed on 1 November. The night before this day is the night, when spirits are abroad. • One of the customs on this day: Families build a fire and place stones with their names on it. The person whose stone is missing the next morning would die within the year.
Dydd Santes Dwynwen • Dydd Santes Dwynwen, literally meaning 'Day of Saint Dwynwen' in Welsh, is considered to be the Welsh equivalent to Valentine's Day and is celebrated on 25 January every year. It celebrates Dwynwen, the Welsh Saint of love. 25 January is the feast day of Saint Dwynwen. • Throughout Wales, children and adults make cards to give each other in a celebration of their love, or sometimes without a name in order to entice (соблазнить) the other person into love.
