There are 7 different techniques an author may use to persuade you to do something. These are called “Tools of Persuasion. ”
Name Calling Points out the negative so another product seems better Says “Other Mascaras Fall Short” tells readers to try Maybelline.
Endorsement Using celebrities or experts to help influence your decision Uses Julian Hough to promote proactive.

Air and Rebut the Other Side’s Point of View Tells the other side’s point of view and why it is wrong I believe kids should study everyday. My opponent says kids should spend all day watching television and playing video games. If kids don't study, how will they ever learn? Progressive tells the other’s prices, and then tells you why to go with them.
Association Presenting a positive image or idea to try and make you feel the same way about something else. We want students to grow up to be thin, happy, and healthy. Candy machines are not good. Gatorade has a lot of vitamins and minerals.
Stereotype Uses unfair images of a group to make a point All straight A students are nerds. Girls like to play with dolls is a stereotype.
Bandwagon Suggests that mostly everyone else is doing it Everyone is wearing “Shape-ups” so you should buy them. Buy me a cell phone, Mom. Everyone else in the 5 th grade has one.
