What is HOSA? ? ? o o 120, 000 members in 47 states Co-curricular organization Student-run organization HOSA Mission Statement n The mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science technology education students, therefore, helping students to meet the needs of the health care community.
Leadership Opportunities o Campus health screenings and education programs o Projects with other CTSO’s o Supporting HOSA National Service Project – The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and local service projects.

Competition Opportunities o 9 th – 12 th graders in Healthcare Science o Students choose and prepare one competitive event o Students who qualify though school and regional competition may go compete at HOSA State Leadership in March in Atlanta

How do I qualify? o Place 1 st, 2 nd, or 3 rd in the event you have chosen during regional competition o If the event you choose does not have a regional competition then you must place 1 st or 2 nd in school competition and meet all deadlines for project prep
What will I do at HOSA SLC o Compete in your event n Events are CLOSED to spectators o Attend educational seminars o Serve as courtesy corps
What happens if I win at SLC? o 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place winners in each category qualify to attend the National Leadership Conference in June….

Emergency Preparedness Events o MRC Partnership (Team of 2 -6) Plan and execute three or more activities in cooperation with the local Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) that promote the mission of the MRC, HOSA, or the Surgeon General.
Emergency Preparedness Events o Public Health (Team of 2 -6, presentation on assigned topic – can use any medium to prepare effective presentation). 2016 -17 Topic: Combating Zika and Future Threats- What is the best way to detect and respond to this emerging disease?

If you choose a team event… o Carefully consider who you choose for team mates. o Only 25% of a team can be replaced between regional and state or between state and nationals o ALL team members must meet travel eligibility requirements!
