Think Big, Think Smart, Think SPE… Nazarbayev University Society of Petroleum Engineers Student Chapter Prepared: August, 2014
Who we are The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) With more than 90, 000 members in more than 100 countries, SPE provides a global forum for the exchange of technology to meet the world’s energy needs. Nazarbayev University SPE Student Chapter is established so as to gather together the students who relate their future career with Oil and Gas Industry, provide them useful technical knowledge, and network them with global student members and professionals. The Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers was established at Nazarbayev University on November 6, 2013. Currently involved: 210 members
What we have done ü Opening of NU SPE Student Chapter. Acting President of Society of Petroleum Engineers, Jeff Spath, came personally to wish good luck with further activities ü NU SPE SC Internal Conference with around 70 participants ü Grand Opening and Technical Lecture with 200 participants ü 6 NU Quiz Nights - Oil and Gas Intellectual Tournament for NU students registered as SPE members (the aim is the expansion of knowledge in Petroleum Engineering and Oil and Gas industry in Kazakhstan )
What we have done ü Total Professeurs Associés courses - one month length intensive courses allowing students to become deeply involved in particular oil and gas topics (~110 certificates are awarded). ü 12 Technical Lecture Programs – interactive talks that stimulate students’ interest in O&G industry. ü Team building activities, member meetings and workshops ü 13 of our members participated in International Conferences (Poland, Croatia, Russia, Romania)
Achievements Among 315 SC worldwide (including MIT, Imperial College, University of Texas Austin), after 8 months (!) of operation, our Student Chapter has become a laureate of Outstanding Student Chapter Award.
Achievements The champions of internal petrointellectual tournament "Quiz Night" were selected to take part in the worldwide Petro. Bowl competition during Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition 2014 [Amsterdam, 27 October 2014]. It is a great achievement for our members to take part in the competition with the teams from Stanford, China University of Petroleum, University of Oklahoma, Texas A&M, University of Calgary, University of Wyoming, Missouri S&T and Penn State.
