The Verb formula: IR + A + Infinitive

IR is an IRREGULAR VERB Meaning… it is a verb that does not follow any certain pattern. These can be the trickiest verbs that you have to memorize!!!
Last year, you learned how to use “ir” with places. IR is often followed by the word a: Examples from last year… Voy al cine. I go (am going) to the movie theater. Los estudiantes van a la biblioteca. The students go (are going) to the library.

Ir + a + infinitive • Remember that to say what you are going to do you use ir a + infinitive. Read the following sentences, paying attention to the boldfaced words. Yo voy a ver la película. (I am going to see the movie. ) Tú vas a ir de compras. (You are going to go shopping. ) Él va a comprar una camisa. (He is going to buy a shirt. ) Nosotros vamos a correr en el parque. (We are going to run in the park. ) Vosotros vais a comer el almuerzo. (You are going to eat lunch. ) Ellos van a escuchar música. (They are going to listen to music. )

Ir + a + INFINITIVE This year, we are going to use a form of the verb ir + a + infinitive to tell what someone is “going to do. ”
IR + a + INFINITIVE Yo voy a correr. I’m going to run. Y tú, ¿vas a jugar fútbol? And you, are you going to play soccer?
