The University of Auckland
The University of Auckland Library Te Tumu Herenga An Overview Presentation created by Rose Holley - March 2002
Te Tumu Herenga Means ‘the chief tethering post’. It is the main binding point, the unmovable mainstay to which waka are tethered. Tumu emphasises the strength of the bond (herenga) and its chiefly status. Waka can contain many things both precious and mundane for the personal journey. The link to the many vessels is the library ‘Te Tuma Herenga’. Nov 1999
