What is the demography? 1) Demography is the science of populations. Demographers seek to understand population dynamics by investigating three main demographic processes: birth, migration, and aging (including death). All three of these processes contribute changes in populations, including how people inhabit the earth, form nations and societies, and develop culture. 2) The demography is a science about the types, ways and the nature of reproduction of the population and factors causing and influencing this process.
“The heart” of the American nation There are racial and ethnic changes in structure of the American society. The dominating idea of which is the powerful multiethnic state. But the white majority might lose its dominant position in all spheres of public life in the nearest future. It is called “the heart” of the American nation. It founded modern American society and for more than two hundred years has acted as the main driving force of its civilization and cultural development. What consequences will it have for the country?
Ethnic structure of the USA
The Population cencus 2010 308. 7 million people 1790 -the first popul-n census 4 million people once in 10 years 2010 281. 4 million people 2000
Americans are rapidly becoming a nation of color 1. However the most disturbing tendency of the demographic situation in the USA revealed by census of 2010 are shifts in racial and ethnic structure of the American society. 2. The flows of immigrants who have been rushing in the USA after the end of "cold war" and real beginning of globalization of economic communications resulted that 13% of the population were former immigrants. 3. About 92% of the increase of the population were the Latin Americans, the Afro-Americans and Americans of an Asian origin while the number of the white population made only 2, 3 million peoplе.
Share of color citizens in the population of the USA a) As a result by 2010 a number of white Americans was 64%. b) In 2000 it was more than 69%.
The population of Southern and Western states increased (23 million people) Northern and Eastern states decreased (4 million people) The main feature of intensive growth of the population of the West and South is that the population of these regions substantially increased due to the color population. For example, the greatest increase in population in the West was because of immigrants from Latin America especially increased after the adoption of the law of 1965.
The reform of 1965 in immigration I. The reform of 1965 has contributed to obtaining immigration status. For 50 years, immigrants came from Germany, UK and France. II. After 1965 the flow of immigrants to the United States increased. III. The reform of 1965 radically changed American immigration priorities - immigration became more demographic.
Now the USA takes the 3 d place in the world among the countries with the largest population, comparing with the People's Republic of China (PRC) and India.
Immigration. Illigal immigration
What the immigration is? Immigration is the movement of people into a country to which they are not native in order to settle there, especially as permanent residents or future citizens. Illegal immigration is the migration of people across national borders in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country.
USA migration history. Immigration before 1890.
Immigration after 1890.
Immigrants from Asia
Problems of immigratians. 1)Language 2)Different way of life 3)Hard work
In 1965, Congress passed the Immigration and Nationality Act, which did away with quotas based on nationality and allowed Americans to sponsor relatives from their countries of origin. As a result of this act and subsequent legislation, the nation experienced a shift in immigration patterns. Today, the majority of U. S. immigrants come from Asia and Latin America rather than Europe.
Illegal immigration.
United States - a secular state. On its territory, due to the diversity of representatives of various religious cultures and beliefs, supported freedom of religion. Nevertheless, we can assume that the main religion is Protestant, by virtue of the length of its history on American soil. Of course, as well as each country, America has the advantages and disadvantarges. They are shown in many spheres of public and spiritual life, but despite it, having the greatest economic, political, cultural, military influence in the world, the USA are considered as the only superstate now. During 2015 United States of America (USA) population is estimated to be increased and reach 326 492 060 in the beginning of 2016. The natural increase is expected to be positive, as the number of births will exceed the number of deaths. If external migration will remain on the previous year level, the population will be increased by 1 428 991 due to the migration reasons
Questions: 1)What is the ethnos? 2)What countries did most immigrants come from before 1890? 3)Do immigrants still come to the United States? Can you give examples? 4) When did the first British settle in America? 5) What does yankee mean? 6) What is the position of the black population in today's America?
