America In Its Birth. The name “America” comes from an ltalian businessman called Amerigo Vespucci, who sailed to South America between 1499 and 1502. Many tribes inhabitted the territory of America. They spoke over three hundred separate languages. So me of which were as different from one another as English is from Chinese. To many people the tepee is a symbol of the Amerindian way of life. This large cone-shaped tent was invented by the buffalo hunters of the western grasslands.
America To Explore. In 1492, Genoese explorer Christopher Columbus, under contract to the Spanish crown, reached several Caribbean islands. Columbus called the Native. Americans "los Indios“- 'lndians” because he thought that he had reached lndia. Europeans called America " the New World ". But it was not new to the Amerindians. Their ancestors had already been living there for maybe 50, 000 years when Columbus stepped on to the beach in Salvador.
