Current issues and events of the tabletop role-playing 1. Publicity concerns connected with religious beliefs and views (article example Straight Talk on Dungeons and Dragons By William Schnoebelen) 2. Gamers’ opinion on developing D&D 5 th Edition rules 5 th Edition D&D Is in Development — Should We Care? By MJ Harnish 01. 09. 12
Straight Talk on Dungeons and Dragons By William Schnoebelen Dungeons and Dragons is a tragic and tangled subject. It is essentially a feeding program for occultism and witchcraft. For Christians, the first scriptural problem is the fact that Dungeons and Dragons violates the commandment of I Ths. 5: 22 "Abstain from all appearance of evil. " Much of the trappings, art, figurines, and writing within D&D certainly appears evilto say the least of it. Now, the question becomes—if a person "innocently" works an authentic ritual that conjures up a demon, or curses someone; thinking that they are only playing a game-might not the ritual still have efficacy? I think we know the answer to that question. If you play at shooting your friend in the head with what you think is an unloaded pistol and don't know a shell is in the chamber, is your friend any less dead because you were playing? Conclusions Quoting Dr. Thomas Radecki MD, a psychiatrist at the University of Illinois School of Medicine: "The evidence in these cases is really quite impressive. There is no doubt in my mind that the game Dungeons and Dragons is causing young men to kill themselves and others. The game is one of non-stop combat and violence. It is clear to me that this game is desensitizing players to violence and also causing an increased tendency to violent behavior. "
Related Questions 1. Do you think that games can be blamed for the unstable behavior of the modern youth? Why? 2. Do you think there should be some legal control introduced to censure the modern game industry? Explain your opinion. 3. Do you believe the publicity of the subject is mostly used by people seeking popularity and fame rather than those who are interested in finding the solution? 4. Do you believe the in-game ritual can mistakenly summon the demon? 5. What are your thoughts of the fact that many in-game rituals are actually copied from the existing religious books describing them in detail? 6. What do you think about the violence issue in the modern gaming industry?
5 th Edition D&D Is in Development — Should We Care? By MJ Harnish 01. 09. 12 On Monday, Wizards of the Coast announced that work is already under way on the 5 th edition of Dungeons & Dragons. An article in the New York Times by Geek. Dad contributor Ethan Gilsdorf details some of the recent history and philosophy that underlies the new development, while a Legends & Lore article by Mike Mearls reveals that part of the process will involve an open play-testing, with rules, classes, monsters and other material being revealed through the D&D website for playtesters to try at their own tables and provide feedback, thereby shaping the development of the game. Not the least of these issues is the fact that Paizo Publishing’s Pathfinder RPG, built on the Open Gaming License (OGL) of D&D 3. 5, is now the number-one selling RPG for the past two quarters. Paizo has also recently introduced plastic miniatures for the Pathfinder RPG, as well as a new Beginners Box set for its game, and has also recently announced that both a MMORPG and comic book series are now in development. Therefore, I view this announcement with a great deal of skepticism. However, I also cannot help but hope that perhaps the D&D developers have truly reflected on what went wrong and right with the last edition of the game, and are going to make a serious effort to rectify all of the shortcomings with the upcoming edition.
Related Questions 1. Do you think the world gaming market is better guided these days when some of the game developers actively use the internet feedback in game design? Explain your opinion. 2. What are your thoughts on the Open Gaming License products in the game industry? 3. It is widely known that there is an active rivalry between the gamers groups using different rules versions. How you think the introduction of the new edition will affect them? 4. Do you personally look forward to the D&D 5 th Edition?
