The Opening of the Museum It was opened at 221 b Baker Street on March, 27 in 1990 by Lady Porter , the Leader of City Council. This is the world’s most famous address. People have been writing to it for more than 100 years.
Baker Street in 1880 s It's the "real" address of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories. The main characters lived there between 1881 -1904.
The History of the Museum It’s a Victorian lodging house. It was built in 1815. The museum tells visitors about the life and times of Sherlock Holmes. .
The Interior The atmosphere of this quiet house is electric. In the museum you can see Holmes' violin, his deerstalker and pipe, the Persian slipper in which he kept his tobacco, unanswered letters, his magnifying glass … There are hand-written notes and extracts from "The Hound of the Baskervilles“ in Dr. Watson's diary. You can sit in Holmes' s armchair by the fireplace. You can examine his things and put on his deerstalker.
Inhabitants of the Museum The Russian actor Vasiliy Livanov, who played the role of Sherlock Holmes, visited the house of his character some years ago.
