SYNOPSIS • Radio Fréquence Plus: Antananarivo and Antalaha • STAFF COMPOSTION: - Antananarivo: OVERALL: 31=( 60% Male, 40% Female) MANAGEMENT: 3=( 2 Male, 1 Female) - Antalaha OVERALL: 7=( 60% Female , 40% Male MANAGEMENT : 2= ( 1 Man , 1 Women) § Target audience : All the population in general § Centre of excellence since 2011 ( 06 March 2012 : Signature of MOU) • Progress : -Administration: (Capacity building and renovation of work place)) -Programmation: ( improved and restructured programme)
OBJECTIVES -Implement the action plan established -Attract more audience (Women and men) -Improve work environment 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA
BACKGROUND • Situation before intervention: -Gender was taken into account but there was no action plan. Usually, the post of technician was occupied by a man. Now, we have recruited a woman techinician -Narrow work place -Commercial agents (only women) 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA
KEY ACTIVITIES -Administration: rehabilitation of the office, recruitement of commercial agents: women and men, participation in different trainings on gender -Programmation: production of new emissions, debates, radio theatres, phoning, reinforcement of coanimation men-women, musical programme intercalated women and men artists 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

CHALLENGES • Key challenges -REDACTION : balance in information sources (Women and men) -ISSUE: Difficult access to women sources even if their numbe has increased - SOLUTION : interview people in the streets 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA
RESULTS (I) • Service delivery: turnover improved Increase : 10 to 15% • Public participation Message considered: results of legislative elections in Antananarivo, 5/12 posts occupied by women • Changes at the work place Rehabilitation of the office: kitchen, toilets for men and women) • Men for change The redaction team, in majority men remain leaders in the implementation of the action plan and gender promotion at the radio • Capacity building Participation during trainings on gender organized by different organizations such as Gender Links
LESSONS LEARNED -Improve in methodology of work -Increase in the knowledge on gender -Increase in insurance and confidence of colleagues -Gender mainstreaming is taken seriously within the board members Application of lessons: -Update action plan 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

SUSTAINABILITY AND REPLICATION • Improvement of gender mainstreaming within the institution: -Cooperation with organizations working on gender and Human Rights -Elaboration of laws on gender -Implementation of conventions signed by Madagascarconcerning gender equality • The process can be replicated in other media house but it requires: -Buy in of media owners -Exchange of experience 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA
