The Relationship Between Poverty and Crime Presentation Global Perspectives and Research
My Global Issues Poverty Crime
My Topic The Relationship Between Poverty and Crime
Research Question What is the relationship between poverty and crime and what are some possible solutions to the problem? Additional questions: v Why is criminal behavior caused by poverty a relevant issue? v What are theories about why people engage in criminal behavior? v How do these different theories affect how people view criminal behavior? v How different are the views of experts and the opinions of the public? Why might this be?
Why I Am Interested in This I am not a natural scientist I am just a person who’s activity isn’t connected with such fields therefore I’m especially interested in this issue. I am student I can research and analyse evidences and support arguments, reasoning and claims It’s important Doubtless, these problems is prevalent in the whole world and has its tremendous significance and it needs to be solved.
What I Hope to Accomplish To objectively analyse different points-of-view on To evaluate the arguments and evidence in order to determine the strongest positions To consider the role of media in shaping public opinion on issues of science To collect primary data to compare/contrast public opinion with scientific consensus To offer potential solutions based on my conclusions
Methodology Mostly literature review of secondary sources Primary data collection will include public opinion surveys and interviews with experts
Secondary Sources “Balance as Bias: Global Warming and the U. S. Prestige Press” “The Global Warming Debate” Course webpage for freshman level environmental science class takes an objective but fair look at the public debate on global warming “Climate Change: Has Science Finally Won the Debate? ” Academic paper by environmental scientist and political scientist looks at role of media on influencing different public opinions on global warming Recent article from The Guardian looks at the history of scientific consensus on climate change and how research comes from-- and largely benefits-- more developed nations “Climate Change Dispatch” Collections of essays, articles, arguments, videos and links arguing against climate change and critical of the science that supports it
Secondary Sources “Climate Change Debate: A Famous Scientist Becomes a Skeptic” Interview with Swedish metereogolist Lennart Bengtsson, former director of one the world’s leading climate research centers, who has become skeptical on the issue of climate change Wikipedia articles for preliminary research and additional sources: http: //en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Global_warming_controversy http: //en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Public_opinion_on_climate_change http: //en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Climate_change_opinion_by_country http: //en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change
Hypothesis and Limitations My current view is that I should follow the views of climate scientists who study this This means I am not completely objective, but I am genuinely interested in finding sound arguments against climate change I would like to perform an opinion survey on all of Karaganda, but this will prove difficult My ultimate hope is to be surprised and have y view changed or modified in some way
