Yaroslavl is a city and the administrative center of Yaroslavl Oblast, located 250 kilometers (160 mi) northeast of Moscow. The historic part of the city is located at the confluence of the Volga and the Kotorosl Rivers. It is one of the Golden Ring cities, a group of historic cities northeast of Moscow that has played an important role in Russian history. The population of Yaroslavl is over 600000 people.
Yaroslavl currently has a municipal coat of arms and flag which are both made up of two heraldic symbols. Both of these items are intrinsically linked with the legend surrounding the foundation of the city.
Yaroslavl was founded by Prince Yaroslav the Wice in 1010. The people who lived in the moutht of the Kotorosl river were pagans. They thought the bear to be a sacred animal. Prince Yaroslav the Wice came here and killed a bear. That is why there is a bear with pole axe one the ancient coat of arms of Yaroslavl.
Our town is divided into six administrative districts: Dzerzhinsky, Zavolzhsky, Kirov, Krasnoperekopsk, Frunze, and Lenin. Dzerzhinsky district is the most populous, so he takes the first place to restore the environment in our city. Kirov region is called the hallmark of Yaroslavl. He yavlyatsya historical, business and cultural center of the city. Krasnoperekopsk and Leninsky districts of the city include the technical and industrial areas Our city is required to develop the infrastructure and the Frunze Zavolzhsky areas. .
Yaroslavl is a big industrial centre now. There are many plants and factories in our town. Among them are the Tyre Plant, the Motor Plant, the Synthetic Rubber Plant, the Oil Refinery Plant, the Footwear Factory, the Disel Plant.
Many people come to our city to earn money or get an education. The villagers are moving into town in search of a comfortable life. But the majority of residents were born and raised in Yaroslavl. Many talented people are, unfortunately, go to larger cities in search of more lucrative work. Students also have to leave, as there is a degree that in our city are not sufficiently developed. Most residents moved to Yaroslavl city transport: trams, shuttles, buses or their own cars. Students prefer to ride a scooter, bicycle and skateboard.
Yaroslavl give great opportunities for secondary and higher education. Yaroslavl has a large number of educational establishments which enclose all three levels of the Russian educational system: primary (ca. 20 establishments), middle (ca. 20 colleges and other secondary schools), and higher (8 state and 2 non-state funded higher educational institutions). In Yaroslavl one can study for both masters' and bachelors' level courses.
Thousands of tourists visit our city. It is a great opportunity foreigners to meet with Russian culture.
Yaroslavl is famous for numerous architectural structures built in the 13 th century, among them churches and municipal buildings, as well as museums and theaters. Our city has successfully developed and modern building, transforming its appearance. Unfortunately, many homes are built in our city in the same boring and they do not have enough brightness. But I think a lot of creative people will fix this in the future.
Yaroslavl is famous for its churches and monasteries. The most famous monastery of Yaroslavl is the Spassky Monastery. It is the wonderful example of ancient Russian architecture of 13 th century. In 1800 the manuscript of the «Lay of Igor’s Host» was discovered there. There are many museums, art galleries and monuments in Yaroslavl: The War Memorial Museum, Museum of the History of Yaroslavl, Art Museum, The Metropolitian Palace. The people of the Yaroslavl are proud of our Drama Theatre. It was founded in 1750 by Fyodor Volkov and was the first theatre in Russia.
There are many parks with beautiful flowers and fountains in Yaroslavl - Park "Jubilee", Butusovsky Square, Volkovsky Square, the Governor's Garden. The people of the Yaroslavl are fond of the Volga and the Kotorosl embankments.
The man from Europe may be surprised to painted walls, vehicles, dirty sidewalks. It is difficult to find a job and flat in our city. Yaroslavl is “the City of chemists”, so ecological situation in our town is not good.
I believe that our city is the best, despite all its shortcomings. I was born and raised here. I love the Yaroslavl!
