Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 – July 6, 1971) was an American jazz trumpeter and singer from New Orleans, Louisiana. Armstrong was born in a very poor family; he was the grandson of slaves. In 1922, Louis Armstrong moved to Chicago, where he played for two years in the Creole Jazz Band, and then moved to New York, where he performed as a trumpeter and singer. Fitzgerald received 13 Grammy Awards, the National Medal of Art, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Alton Glenn Miller was born in Clarinda, Iowa on March 1, 1904. Miller played with a few small bands in Los Angeles until 1927, as a trombonist and arranger. But he wanted to have a big band of his own. In March 1937, Miller's dream became reality. The Glenn Miller Orchestra played many different types of big band music-everything from hot jazz to popular ballads.
