The new face of the Compact The D 2 N 2 Compact. The public service sector working together in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire
Background to PS Compacts • • 2007 Lifelong Learning UK supported the development of Compacts Aims of the Compacts – Bring together a range of public sector employers to discuss relevant issues of common concern – Workforce Issues such as recruitment & retention, learning & development and workforce development
Derbys and Notts Compact – the background • The Compacts were instrumental in ensuring that all member organisations made a formal commitment to workforce development • back in 2008 signing the Skills Pledge was expected of the member orgs • In both counties the Compacts have encouraged increasing the number of Apprentices working in the public sector • Both Compacts have facilitated partnership arrangements • Support for the Compacts was funded by the LSC until March 2010.
Derbyshire Compact Since March 2010 the Derbyshire Compact has facilitated more than 20 good practice workshops including: • Sharing resources in an austere environment • Working with the third sector • Aligning supply and demand for training • Promoting Apprenticeships in public service • Getting the right skills for leaders to deliver • Collaborative approaches to workforce development • Working with D 2 N 2 The Nottinghamshire Compact was less active in this period but also facilitated a variety of partnership activities to address issues of common concern and interest.
D 2 N 2 Compact • The Derbyshire Compact invited colleagues in Nottinghamshire to join forces and form the D 2 N 2 Compact. • In December this merge was agreed and it was also agreed to adopt the Derbys Compact ‘modus operandi’ (i. e. a subscription and sponsorship model to ‘buy-in’ external support) to facilitate the Compact activity • The move was welcomed by D 2 N 2 and the Compact have agreed to align their activity to the D 2 N 2 agenda
D 2 N 2 Compact – the early signs are good ! • • • Already we have 26 member organisations !! We have a new Chair for the new Compact. Marje Toward will officially take over as Chair on the 1 st April We have a new Facilitator for the new Compact. Yvonne Robinson will officially take on the role on the 1 st April. Yvonne lives and works in the East Midlands All good !! …. But we need you the members to help shape the agenda. The Compact is a member organisation and the activities will be driven by the membership
