Historical information Originally the sculpture was carved into the chalk hillside. In 1874, Sussex Archaeological Society marked the contours of the giant with yellow brick, and in 1891 the yellow bricks were replaced with white. During the Second World War the bricks were painted with green paint to camouflage them, and after the war they were newly whitewashed. Finally, in 1969, mysterious image has been updated with 770 concrete blocks. All of these changes might destructed the figure’s original appearance. Most likely, that this mysterious figure of the giant had a religious sence, being the idol or a symbol of fertility. The most popular legends are that the mysterious figure is a grave or giant’s tombstone, or is it the contours of the place where he fell and died. At nowadays this is the popular place for pagan rites. «Wilmington Giant» is still be the property of Sussex Archaeological Society.

Even after the fire, strange events continued in the ruins of house: there were sounds of heavy footsteps, a strange smell, spots of light, recorded a sudden drop in temperature. Denbigh Asylum This asylum was built in 1844. It was planned to treat Welsh patients. Previosly these patients were sent to the British asylums, where doctors weren’t able to speak Welsh. This madhouse could accommodate nearly 1, 500 patients, and about one thousand employees. The building is currently abandoned since 2002.

Local vandals say, that they often heard some strange voices in the corridors at night. However, it might be only their fantasy or even hallucinations due to cigarette they smoke and etc. But look at these rooms. It would be really scary to walk alone down these corridors. Especially at night…
