CHARLES TAZE RUSSELL TAUGHT ANNIHILATION OF WICKED “The doctrine of a burning hell where the wicked are tortured eternally after death cannot be true. A dead person is unconscious and inactive. The soul itself is dead. All who reject the kingdom message will be annihilated. ”

JESUS TAUGHT ETERNAL PUNISHMENT FOR THE WICKED Jesus says to unbelievers, “Depart from me, ye cursed into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels. ” Matthew 25: 41 b “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. ” Revelation 20: 15

A BRIEF HISTORY OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES Founded in 1870’s by Charles Taze Russell (1852 -1916) as a Bible study for Russell’s business associates and friends. Russell raised a Congregationalist. By age 16 CR despised the idea of eternal conscious torment in Hell or Lake of Fire By age 24 (1876) CR believed Christ’s return would be invisible.

(Later became The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom. ) 1881 Russell formed ZION’S WATCHTOWER TRACT SOCIETY. 1884 incorporation of Watchower Bible and Tract Society (CR = 32 yrs old)

A BRIEF HISTORY OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES 1886 CR published the first in a series of seven books called The Millennial Dawn, later known as Studies in the Scriptures is the historical and traditional basis of JW’s theology. CR published his sermons as paid ads in newspapers around the world, hence JW’s reached global interest.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES CR claimed to know the Greek language, but was proven a liar under oath as he was asked in court to read the Greek alphabet and finally admitted that he could not read Greek. CR’s wife divorced him on the grounds of “conceit and domination” (see: Walter Martin’s Cult Reference Bible, p. 38)

Miracle Wheat which he claimed would grow five times as much as any other brand, and which he sold at $60 a bushel. ” Miracle Wheat was proven in court to be a fraud (Martin, p. 38).

A BRIEF HISTORY OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES 1880: Russell prophesied “…the end of the times of the Gentiles in 1914. ” (Zion’s Watchtower, Nov. 1880, p. 1) 1888: Russell prophesied “…the full end of the times of the Gentiles…in 1914…and the Kingdom of God will obtain full control. ” (The Time is at Hand, 1888, pp. 76 -77) 1889: “The Gospel age harvest will end Oct. 1914, and…. the overthrow of ‘Christendom’ socalled, must be expected to immediately follow. ” (Studies in the Scriptures, vol. 2, 1889, p. 101, 245)

But bear in mind that the end of 1914 is not the date of the beginning, but for the end of the time of trouble. ” (Watchtower, July 15, 1894, p. 266) 1897: In October 1914 there will be “Complete destruction of the ‘powers that be’ of ‘this present evil world’—political, financial, ecclesiastical…. ” (Studies in the Scriptures, vol. 4, 1897, p. 622)

A BRIEF HISTORY OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES October 1914 was “God’s date, not ours” but it came and went and nothing occurred, so what was the explanation offered by Russell: “Studying God’s word we [predicted] October 1914 as nearly as we were able to reckon. We did not say positively that this would be the year. ” (Watchtower, November 1, 1914, p. 325)

A BRIEF HISTORY OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES 1907: Again Russell prophesied 1914 to be the year that ended Armageddon and accomplished “the complete overthrow of earth’s present rulership. ” (CR, The Time is at Hand, 1907, p. 101) 1914 proved CR to be a false prophet!!! Many wisely left the JW’s following 1914.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES When the 1914 and 1915 dates proved to be false prophecies, Russell prophesied a new, more precise and “firmly established” date of 1925. Before his death in 1916 Russell wrote: “There is evidence that the establishment of the Kingdom in Palestine will probably be in 1925, ten years later than we once calculated. ” (Studies in the Scriptures, vol. 7, p. 128)

JW’S SUBTRACT FROM THE BIBLE Jesus was not Jehovah God. He was the first son that Jehovah God brought forth. (Michael the Archangel) Jesus was truly man, but not YWHW God. Jesus was a god, but not Jehovah God. Jesus had pre-existence, but not eternal. Jesus was the first creation of God.

IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD, AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD, AND THE WORD WAS GOD. John 1: 1 The JW’s version of the Bible (New World Translation) erroneously states: “…and the word was a god. ” Breaks a rule of Greek grammar: Colwell’s rule = – “God” is an anarthrous (no article for emphasis) predicate nominative! Jesus is the Word, Jesus is GOD (emphatic)

JOHN 1: 1 DOES NOT TEACH POLYTHEISM!!! The JW’s New World Translation version of the Bible teaches that the Lord Jesus is an inferior god to Jehovah God. This makes JW’s polytheists (many gods) Jesus claimed to be God: “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins. John 8: 24

JESUS SAID, “I AM HE!” Did you notice that the Biblical text had the word, HE, in italics (KJV; NASB)? “He” is not in the Greek text! Jesus said, quite literally, “I AM. ” “I AM” IS THE SAME GOD THAT MET MOSES AT THE BURNING BUSH!

EXODUS 3: 14, 15 “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and He said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob hath sent me unto you: this is my name forever…. ”

“…THIS IS MY NAME FOREVER…. ” In Exodus 3: 13 -15 the God of the Bible identifies Himself as the Eternal Jehovah. Jesus, by calling himself “I AM” identifies Himself as the Eternal Jehovah. Jesus, as the 2 nd person of the Trinity, is God Who has always existed, Who exists in the present and Who will always exist in the future! Jesus is not Michael the AA

JOHN 8: 57 -59 a Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. Then took they up stones to cast at him. . .

John 10: 30, 31 I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Why did the Jews want to stone Jesus? Because they knew he was calling himself wholly God.

MATTHEW 4: 6 a, 7 The devil said to Jesus: “If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: …” Jesus said unto him, “It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. ” Jesus calls Himself the Lord God!!!!!

JW’S DENY THE TRINITY Jehovah alone is God the Almighty. Jesus as Savior is inferior to Jehovah. HOLY SPIRIT IS A FORCE, NOT A PERSON SAYS JW’S The Holy Spirit is not God.

HOLY SPIRIT- ACTS 5: 3, 4 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

POLYTHEISTS, MONOTHEISTS AND TRINITARIANS “For though there be that are called gods whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be [so-called] gods many, and lords many), But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things and we by him. ” 1 Corinthians 8: 5, 6

EPHESIANS 4: 4 -7 “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. But to every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

ISAIAH 44: 6 “Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of Hosts; I am the first, and the last; and beside me there is no God. ” REVELATION 22: 13 Jesus said, “I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. ”

I Corinthians 8: 6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

144, 000 ATTAIN HEAVEN Revelation 7: 4 f: “And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed a hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. Of the tribe of Judah were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand, etc. ”

Revelation 14: 3 b, 4 a “. . . The one hundred and forty-four thousand which were redeemed from the earth. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. Does this mean that JW theology eliminates women from Heaven?

ISAIAH 5: 20, 21 WOE TO THOSE WHO CALL EVIL GOOD, AND GOOD EVIL, WHO PUT DARKNESS FOR LIGHT AND LIGHT FOR DARKNESS, WHO PUT BITTER FOR SWEET AND SWEET FOR BITTER. WOE TO THOSE WHO ARE WISE IN THEIR OWN EYES AND CLEVER IN THEIR OWN SIGHT.

II COR. 11: 3 BUT I FEAR, LEST BY ANY MEANS, AS THE SERPENT BEGUILED EVE THROUGH HIS SUBTLETY, SO YOUR MINDS SHOULD BE CORRUPTED FROM THE SIMPLICITY THAT IS IN CHRIST.

II COR. 11: 4 FOR IF HE THAT COMETH PREACHETH ANOTHER JESUS, WHOM WE HAVE NOT PREACHED, OR IF YE RECEIVE ANOTHER SPIRIT WHICH YE HAVE NOT RECEIVED, OR ANOTHER GOSPEL, WHICH YE HAVE NOT ACCEPTED, YE MIGHT WELL BEAR WITH HIM.

II COR. 11: 13, 14 FOR SUCH ARE FALSE APOSTLES, DECEITFUL WORKERS, TRANSFORMING THEMSELVES INTO THE APOSTLES OF CHRIST. AND NO MARVEL; FOR SATAN HIMSELF IS TRANSFORMED INTO AN ANGEL OF LIGHT.

EPHESIANS 6: 10, 11 FINALLY, MY BRETHERN, BE STRONG IN THE LORD, AND IN THE POWER OF HIS MIGHT. PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD, THAT YE MAY BE ABLE TO STAND AGAINST THE WILES OF THE DEVIL. FOR WE WRESTLE NOT AGAINST FLESH AND BLOOD. . .

JW’S NEED THE TRUE GOSPEL OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST! The Bible states: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. ” Romans 3: 23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. ” Romans 6: 23

JW’S NEED THE TRUE GOSPEL OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST! “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. ” Romans 5: 8 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. ” Romans 10: 9

1 CORINTHIANS 15: 1 b, 3 b, ff “I declare unto you the gospel…how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures: and that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve…after that he was seen…last of all he was seen

ACTS 13: 28 -31 “And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilot that he should be slain (Christ died). And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulcher (was buried). But God raised him from th dead (resurrection): And he was seen many days…. ”(seen alive after death=Christ is Risen, He is Risen Indeed!)

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. ” Ephesians 2: 8, 9 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ” John 3: 16 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. ” Romans 9: 13

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS! Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name; That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, at things in Heaven and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil. 2: 9 -11

Who is this Alpha and Omega? Revelation 1: 8: “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. ” KJV “I am the Alpha and the Omega, ” says Jehovah God, “the One who is and who was and who is coming, the Almighty. ” NWT Jehovah is the Alpha and the Omega.

Revelation 22: 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. KJV I am Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. NWT WHO IS THIS FIRST AND LAST? He can be no other than Jehovah!

Revelation 1: 17 -18 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. KJV “…I am the First and the Last, and the living one; and I became dead, but look! I am living forever and ever. ” NWT If the First and the Last is Jehovah as the NWT says, then when did Jehovah die?

Obviously Jehovah did die according to the New World Translation, and Jehovah did come back to life Revelation; 1: 18 NWT. This Jehovah is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ Who died on the cross of Calvary for our sins and came back to life on the third day at the resurrection!

Hebrews 1: 1 -3 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

God’s only Son, Jesus, BY HIMSELF purged our sins. Jesus needs no help from us to cleanse us of our sins=no works even of righteousness are in any way needed to help Jesus wash away our sins. Salvation is the free gift of God to us. Salvation is by grace (unmerited in any way) through faith and is not of any of our works at all, lest someone should boast of their works. (see: Ephesians 2: 8 -10; Titus 3: 4 -8)

8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. 10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. 13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Hebrews 1: 8 -13

8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. (Hebrews 1: 8) “Son” is Jesus. “…Thy throne, O God…” is referring to Jesus, the Son. “God” is “Theos” the usual Greek term for God the Father: this can only mean that God the Father and Jesus the Son are one (Trinity).

Matthew 4: 6 -7 6 And [Satan] saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Jesus calls Himself “the Lord thy God. ” God is “Theos” therefore Jesus is God, and the 2 nd person of the Trinity of the Bible!

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved: WHY? Because Jesus is the Creator God of the Bible (John 1; Colossians 1; Hebrews 1) and only the Creator would have the right and the authority to redeem and save His creature: mankind. Jesus alone has that right and He proved it by His death and resurrection which He accomplished with you and me in mind.
