The Greatness of God Isaiah 40: 12 -31

God Is Not Great. . . • To the secular who do not read their Bible, pray, attend a worship service • To the atheist who mock all things religious • To the religious who change God’s word to fit their own liking • To the “good” who will not obey the gospel

God Is Not Great. . . • Like the (often crude) comedian Rodney Dangerfield, God does not get any respect • Many are not taught, or have forgotten, the high and lofty place that God deserves in one’s life • A low, or non-existent, view of God happens little by little

God Is Great. . . • Isaiah contrasts the one true God with false idols in this section of Isaiah (40 -46) • Israel is reminded of the incomparable greatness of God so that she will continue her faith in him during captivity • Let us consider how the greatness and majesty of God is demonstrated

The Greatness of God. . . • First, is seen in his mighty works of wisdom (vv. 12 -14) • The waters, heavens, dust, and mountains are measured by God • Romans 11: 33 -36

The Greatness of God. . . • Second, is seen in his power over the nations (vv. 15 -17) • The nations are small and nothing compared to God • Revelation 16: 19; 19: 15

The Greatness of God. . . • Third, is seen in his creation of the universe (vv. 18 -26) • The idols and the princes are nothing to God • Acts 17: 24 -31

The Greatness of God. . . • Fourth, is seen in his care for mankind (vv. 27 -31) • The weak are given strength by God • 2 Cor. 1: 8 -10; 4: 1, 8 -10, 16; 12: 9 -10

God is Great • Because God is great, let us show him reverence and respect • Will we come to Jesus (40: 3; Mt. 3: 3; Mk. 1: 3; Lk. 3: 3 -6; Jn. 1: 23)? • Will we obey God’s word (40: 6 -8; 1 Pet. 1: 23 -25)?
