The Farm is a mile by a half-mile(9 three quarter sections) long. When the present owner bought the farm it contained about 120 acres of tillable soil, now in 2002 there is only about 40 acres left of tillable soil. The property also used to have a granary bin/hog shed, a barn which was added onto, pump shed, garage, old machine shed two other sheds and chicken coops. Since the present owners have had the farm they have torn down the chicken coops and the granary bin? hog shed. They have also converted one of the sheds into a garage, and they have put up a nice pole shed out back. The present owners, the Hanke’s, put dormers in the barn, reroofed it, and pulled the walls back together because they were leaning outward instead of standing straight up. The original house(little house) was very small. It had four rooms, one large kitchen, a basement under the second story , and no heating or pluming. Henke’s moved the “little house” over and took the “big house” from the Ramsier farm, about ten miles up past Ludington and put that on their property in November of 1962.
The Property has many soil varieties. There are sixteen different soil types on the property. Most are of a sandy nature. Some sections of the property have a poor run off, while others have a good runoff. This is very diverse piece of property in terms of soil properties and types.
