The Enormous Turnip

Once upon a time there was a farmer and his wife, And apart from little money they lived a pretty happy life.

They had boys, a girl, dog, cats and mouse, And they all lived together in a little farmhouse.

The farmer grew vegetables for the family to feed, And started by planting a tiny turnip seed. While he planted they all sang;

The sun began to shine and the rain fell quick, And up rose a shoot, like a tiny green stick.

He gave a heave and an almighty haul, But that turnip wasn’t budging at all!

He asked his wife for help with a shout, “Love, help me pull this turnip out!”

The farmer and his wife pulled as hard as they could, But the turnip stuck tightly surrounded by mud.

They needed more power, so after some pulling for over an hour, They called for their son, “Come here boy, let’s get this job done!”

All in a line they took their places, Ready to pull with determined faces. But still no use, not even a flinch, That turnip still hadn’t moved one single inch.

The boy called for his sister, “Hey come here, Matilda” She was sure to help as an ex body builder.

Again stood the family, with desire in their eyes, Pulling again, to up root the prize.

The turnip stood firm, come out, it would not So they called for help from the family dog Spot. “Spot, here boy, this turnips ready to pick, Just hold onto here like you would do a stick”.

The family pulled, wriggled, and shuck And to their horror the turnip still stuck.

The cat was called for a set of extra paws, It rolled up its fur and stuck in it claws.

Together the family heaved all their might, But the turnip was just wedged in to tight.

They all said together, “We’re not giving up yet!”

And they called upon their littlest pet.

Working together the family pulled at the crop,

POP! And suddenly they heard an almighty great

They all staggered back with shock in their eyes, Enormous that turnip, an incredible size!

The family sat rested and ready to eat, With a huge appetitive for their turnip soup treat!

So the moral and this stories theme, More can be achieved working as a team.
