The cultural heritage of the USA American culture is rich, complex, and unique. Arts, architecture, music, literature, films, and poetry, America’s culture leads the world trends in many ways, and is highly freedom-oriented and cosmopolitan in nature. Americans are very enthusiastic people who have a great zest for life. As a result, their culture has a lot of color and variety and openness about it.
Food The United States has rich and productive land that has provided Americans with plentiful resources for a healthy diet. Despite this, Americans did not begin to pay close attention to the variety and quality of the food they ate until the 20 th century, when they became concerned about eating too much and becoming overweight. American food also grew more similar around the country as American malls and fast-food outlets tended to standardize eating patterns throughout the nation, especially among young people.
Dress American dress is distinctive because of its casualness. Levi Strauss is one of the most recognized names in the world for blue denim jeans that were developed in the United States. There are top designer labels in the U. S. that are famous among the elite classes all over the world. Blue jeans are probably the single most representative article of American clothing. American style in the 20 th century is recognizably more informal than in Europe, and for its fashion sources it is more dependent on what people on the streets are wearing. The fashion industry in the United States, along with its companion cosmetics industry, grew enormously in the second half of the 20 th century and became a major source of competition for French fashion. Especially notable during the late 20 th century was the incorporation of sports logos and styles, from athletic shoes to tennis shirts and baseball caps, into standard American wardrobes.
Sport Sports in the United States are an important part of American culture; however, the sporting culture is different from that of other nations, as Americans prefer a unique set of sports. For example, soccer, the most popular sport in the world, is not as popular in the U. S. compared to the four most popular team sports — namely baseball, American football, basketball, and ice hockey. Baseball is one of the most popular sports in the country. Competitions are held at two levels – minor league baseball and major league baseball ( MLB ). Basketball Baseball and American Football are closely followed by Basketball in terms of sports popularity in the United States. The NBA (National Basketball Association) competitions, like the MLB and NFL, are followed not only in the United States but throughout the world. Hockey Ice hockey is the next in the list of most popular sports in USA. Ice hockey originated in the neighbouring country - Canada and soon gained popularity in North America. National Hockey League (NHL), the oldest international Ice Hockey competetion, was founded in Northen America. In 1960, America obtained its first Gold Medal in Winters Olympics. With the introduction of artificial ice rinks, Ice-Hockey has today become a very popular passtime indoor sport.
Memorials and monuments • Monuments to national heroes are an important part of American culture. These range from the memorials to Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln on the National Mall in Washington, D. C. , to the larger-than-life faces of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt carved into Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. Some national memorials also include monuments to ordinary citizens, such as the laborers, farmers, women, and African Americans who are part of the new Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, D. C. • Americans also commemorate popular culture with museums and monuments such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. These collections of popular culture as much a part of American heritage as are fine arts museums and statues of national heroes. As a result of this wide variety of institutions and monuments, more people know about the breadth of America’s past and its many cultural influences.
