The brothers Hnatiuk
• As we all know our gymnasia is named after brothers Hnatiuk-the talanted people, who had made a lot for the Ukrainian prosperity.
• Bogdan - Taras and Miroslav - Volodymyr Hnatiuk were the aboriginals of Zalishchyky Town. They had finished the normal school and gymnasia; played a great role in the Ukrainian national struggle in the 30 th of the last century. Soon the famous brothers got a success in the science research of Physic and Medicine.
Bogdan-Taras, who was born in Bogdan-Taras 1915, first decided to work as a teacher. But then he used the opportunity to emigrate to German. There he finished the Technical University of Danzig. In 1945 B. Hnatiuk received an engineering degree of aeronautics including doctorate. During the war, Bohdan was working at the University of Vienna in the area of Speed aeronautics and turbojet engines. Before emigrating to the USA, he had also worked as a teacher in the ministry of the Air Force of
B. Hnatiuk had been collaborating for a long time with the renowned designer of modern rockets Wernher von Braun. From 1951 to 1960 he had been a professor at the universities of Notrdam and West Virginia. Subsequently, in 1995 he taught mechanical engineering and was a consultant in the Dreksel Polytechnic University. Bogdan was directly involved in the creation of intercontinental ballistic missiles of the American submarine "Trident“. He belonged to many professional organizations, particularly to the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, association air force and artillery, the American Association of University Professors and other associations.
At the same time he was in the OUN ranks, foundated the World Congress of Free Ukrainian, was a chairman of the foundation named after Oleg Olzhich, Philadelphia Branch of the National Committee, member of the Ukrainian Engineering Society of America Scientific Society, the Ukrainian. American Association of University Professors, and belonged to the Ukrainian American Coordinating Council. Together with Hnatiuk family Ukrainian community in North America dreamed of independent statehood of Ukraine. Bogdan-Taras openly showed to the whole American world his love to Ukraine despite the "cold war" with its "iron curtain" between the two systems. He died in 1988 in Philadelphia
• Myroslav Hnatiuk, the younger Hnatiuk son of Hnatiuk family, was born in 1917. Since his early childhood he had showed a great love to our Motherland. Studying in Zalishchyky Gimnasia, he was an active participant of drama club. Once he sung the Ukrainian patroitic song in a performance, which was forbidden by Polen authority. That is why he was flunked out the school and continued studyying in Kolomyja. There he attended illegal patriotic society and soon became the member of OUN.
From September, 1939 with arrival of soviet troops to Western Ukraine Hnatiuk passes to the deep underground, being already a student-physician in Lviv. In spring in 1941 Hnatiuk by chance remains alive during shooting of students - members of ОУН. Some time he heads organization of the Ukrainian nationalists in Zalishchyky. In autumn 1941 he moves to Lviv, where continues to study medicine, at the same time carries on underground activity. In September, 1939 Myroslav enters into marriage with daughter of farmers Anna, that was born in Pechorna. Anna worked as a teacher in a small town Tovste. There was born their first son Bohdan.
And here family abandons Ukraine. In Germany Hnatiuk carries out the duties of OUN explorer on an entire country. One of his tasks there was passage outside Germany the greatest writer Ulas Samchuk and editor, publisher Ivan Tiktor. in 1946 Hnatiuk enters the Insbrook university, where continues studying medicine. In November, 1947 ends studies on a medical faculty and begins the medical career, working in different medical establishments of Germany. At the end of December, 1949 Hnatiuk emigrates to the USA. From 1951 to 1954 Myroslav masters the profession of surgeon, practiced in the Pennsylvanian university
In 1936 19 -years-old Hnatiuk founds a choir of society "Meadow" that was very popular in the youth circles of Galychina. Being in the Ukrainian underground in Vienna, Myroslav for the sake of secrecy enters the conservatory, where he engages in a vocal activity. Finally he gets perceptible professional preparation as a singer. After retiiring Hnatiuk moves to Detroyd. There, first of all, Myroslav enters the choir of bandura-players. in 1990 choir of bandura-players from Detroit, that was managed by Myroslav Гнатюк, did a tour to Ukraine. Kyiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernivtsi, Lviv welcomed them. And already in August, 1991 Ukraine got the independence. A great part in this great deal was made by Myroslav Hnatiuk. He died in 2000.
