THE BRITISH ISLES The British Isles are in the north -west of Europe. They consist of a large island, Great Britain, a smaller island, Ireland, and lots of very small islands: the Shetlands, the Orkneys and the Hebrides in the north, the Isle of Man between Great Britain and Ireland the Channel Islands in the south, near France. Great Britain is divided into three countries: England, Scotland, Wales. Ireland is divided into two countries: Eire, or The Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland or Ulster. HOME
THE BRITISH FLAG The national flag of Britain is the UNION JACK. It is a composition of the three flags of England, Scotland Ireland was oficially adopted in 1801. The origin of the name is not certain but it is probably because Jack was the nickname of King James I who united the crowns of England Scotland in 1603. Parliament is made up of three parts: -the Monarch -the House of Lord -the House of Commons. The two houses are situated in the Palace of Westminster.
