The American Revolution Happy Birthday America!
The American Colony In the 1600’s, people from England emigrated to the United States They wanted Religious freedom from the Church of England They started a colony in Jamestown The first winter was very difficult; many people starved to death
Thanksgiving The first winter the colonists lived in America, the native American Indians helped them survive They fed them, and in the spring they taught them how to farm The first Fall the colonists spent in America was very fruitful They had a feast with the Indians to celebrate the harvest This is why we celebrate Thanksgiving in America every fall, to remember how God blessed our ancestors and to give him thanks for what we have
“No taxation without representation!” In the 1700’s, America had 13 different large colonies They had their own government England was still in control, but from a long ways away England decided to levy new taxes (взимать налоги) on tea, stamps, and paper The American people were mad because they had no representation in England to give them a voice about the new tax They called it “taxation without representation” (налоговое обложение без представительства)
The Declaration of Independence On July 4 th 1776, our Founding Fathers (отцы основатели) wrote a Declaration of Independence, telling England that they were going to become their own country Among the signers were some of our first presidents (George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson) and other important figures like Ben Franklin
The Revolution Of course, England was not happy They sent an army to suppress the revolution America won the war and became an independent country, no longer under colonial rule In 1781, the Founding Fathers signed our Constitution, which we still use today Our Constitution has changed very little in 236 years!
