When are we going? We will be going from Monday 4 th June to Friday 8 th – this is the first day back after half term! The ferry will be leaving from Portsmouth and takes approximately 6 hours each way! A word of warning we have a very early morning ferry on Monday! The adults on the trip will be: Mr Byrne, Miss Maund, Miss Morrissey, Mrs Aitken, Mr Barclay and Ms Taylor. We have all done residential trips before.
Where are we going? Chateau de la Baudonniere is in Normandy. Our ferry arrives into Caen and our accommodation is about thirty minutes from the port.
What will we be doing? We will be doing a range of activities including: A trip to the beach A trip to the market French bread-making Circus skills, orienteering, aeroball A visit to the D Day Landings museum Quizzes, treasure hunts and lots more!
Ethos of The Chateau The Château is all about French language immersion as well as having a great time. The children are encouraged to speak French to the staff who work there. A friendly, supportive environment supports this philosophy which is focused on developing French language skills in as realistic situation as possible.
Accommodation and Food Children will be sharing rooms (as with Frontier last year) and we will organise this nearer to the time. There is a varied, quality menu on offer including pasta, fresh bread (made by the children) barbeque, curry, salads and plenty of fruit and vegetables. We will ensure that you all have food to eat that you like. You can also buy some snacks when we go to places like the market, if you wish.
Le Mont St Michel Le Mont St. Michel may well be France’s most famous landmark outside of Paris. Built in the 11 th century, the Abbey is a feat of medieval architecture with outstanding panoramic views over the bay.
Markets French markets are a staple of French culture and are always lively, colourful places, selling local produce, French fashion and accessories and plenty of seasonal fruit and veg. Children will have a chance to test out their French skills in tasting or buying produce – don’t worry, you won’t go hungry.
Local Beaches We will be having some fun on the local beaches!
Battle of Normandy Museum A unique museum that will go over some of the information you learnt in Year 5 about WW 2.
Pre-visit Miss Maund and Mrs Aitken will be going to France in a couple of weeks for a pre-visit and full risk assessment.
Important Information Passports should be handed in ASAP please to be photocopied. The children will be allowed to bring a small amount of spending money (in Euro) for places like the market and the beach should they wish to buy any souvenirs. A kit list and medication paperwork will be released nearer the time.
Questions We will try and answer as many questions as we can, but please be aware that we may not have all of the specific answers yet. If we can’t answer your question this evening, then we will do so as soon as possible by phone or email. This presentation will be uploaded to the website
